How can you help but love him ? Yup. This pretty much says it all for me. I, too, have never in my life followed a celebrity, singer, actor, etc. of any kind before. It's a strange experience, but--I can't help but love him! My mom has been a long time fan of a Spanish singer called Serrat (since she was a kid, actually. All her life). She absolutely loves him, as if he was part of the family. The smile she gets in her face whenever he's mentioned is pretty amazing. The other night she told me that maybe this Adam obsession was just a phase. I very seriously answered that Adam was my Serrat, and she smiled and started asking questions about him. We spent almost 2 hours talking about Adam as an artist, and also about his life and all the barriers he's been breaking. It was pretty amazing. Between that and my parents reaction to CTMBTM, I think that now Adam's accepted in my family as one of our own. ;D

This conversation reminds me of a really well written blog back during AI - the guy talked about skipping a big football game in order to watch Adam on Idol. Don't know where to look for it, but maybe someone here does. He had some unsettling feelings, too, if I recall. And there was another one, about the same time, by a minister who pretty frankly said Adam stirred some unexpected feelings...
Some of Adam's decisions may have set him back a bit in his career and he may realize it. But the fact that he has been so open has been/is a contibuting factor to the desensitization of many, I think. And he may feel it is well worth it in the larger scheme of things. He is brave. (and hot!)

A quote from one of Adam's close friends, Brad Bell: "[If] you’re not going to watch me long enough to figure out that there’s more to me than my fabulousness, you’re of the exact same mentality as the people you’re worried are going to judge you based on my behavior". I think both Cheeks and Adam enjoy watching people squirm a little. They truly embrace their individualism. The FYE album cover is a good case in point. Adam thought it was great fun, a joke -- just camp as far he was concerned -- like everyone should know and understand it. Just fun. Was that when "it ain't that deep" came into our vocabulary? I can't remember.

I can't remember. I think it may have been used by fans for the cover but Adam tweeted "It ain't that deep" to Kanye West. AdamLambert: Kanye needs to chill. He freaks out every year. It ain't that deep man. September 14, 2009 It was after Kanye did the Taylor Swift speech.

ETA: To put this stray thought into context -- Idol fans were mentioned above and I was thinking about how little commitment it take to be an Idol fan. Forcing fans to take OWNERSHIP of music would make the more loyal.
If they let me redo Idol..... I would have the contestants perform, and put the song for sale immediately after the show ends. A purchase would equal a vote. I would use IP address to select only the votes that came from the right place and time -- 2 hours after the show per time zone. I would limit "voting" to 10 per IP address. No more spam voting. And no more negative voting for free. I believe the winner in my system would be very likely to have a better commercial potential than the current Idol crew. Well over a hundred Idol finalists and fewer than 10 are currently really successful. And only Adam, Scotty and P2 have reasonable to great sales from the past 5 years. Q3 - something similar to the first part of your voting system was used here in Oz for the Voice (not sure if done same way in US). You could vote by text message and I think that was limited or you could buy the single of the song they performed on iTunes as soon as the show finished and each purchase equaled 2 votes. The itunes top 10 after the show was a sea of red covers with The voice on them. It was a good indicator of who was going to go through actually - how long their singles stayed in the top 10. The 4 that ended up as finalists were consistently the top single sellers from the start.

discussion about his look reminds me of a comment I read somewhere written by a man about Adam "he is too beautiful to be a man, but he is a handsome man" It seems like there was a Russian Queen fan last summer who described Adam as a cross between Rambo and Elizabeth Taylor. LOVED IT.
