I know I'm going to be in the minority with my opinion here, but my guess is that TP failed because it was sort of a gay anthem. He sang about trespassing on the heterosexual world and he sang about cruising gay bars and he sang about his relationship with Sauli and how they're told that it's wrong. Granted, Adam could have come out with a very generic album with very generic lyrics and he probably still would have trouble selling to this "christian fundamentalist" country, but making the album a gay anthem type thing probably made things worse. Also, I personally think Adam needs to move away from dance/pop music. I feel he made have sold more if he had stayed with pop/rock type songs instead. WWFM was a perfect fit for Adam and his voice is just wasted on dance music. That stuff is for the auto-tuned singers, not someone who can sing operatic Queen songs. I know Adam likes to push buttons and is not afraid to live his life openly as a gay man, and I deeply respect that, but I do believe it has hurt him in sales and will continue to do that here in america. This country is actually going backwards in some ways with the "fundamentalist" movement happening at the same time as we try to move forward with social issues. It will be a long fight and Adam will have a long fight too to garner respect for who he is here. Overseas, they are much more tolerant of people's differences because they aren't being taught by parents and churches to hate the gays as much as we are over here. The "fundamentalist" are fighting to keep the gays from gaining social acceptance here because they are feeling threatened. This may be shocking to some here, but my husband is a fundamentalist christian and he agreed with Iran's ruler that it is okay to imprison gays when caught in the act of sex. I was shocked too when he said it but I turned to him and said, "well, then you have to imprison the fornicators and adulterers too, what's the difference". That put him in his place as he couldn't disagree with that and claimed he wasn't thinking it through first but just the fact that he believes they are worthy of being imprisoned is bad enough. I asked him who are they hurting and he couldn't answer. This shows just how brainwashed they are and this is very common here in our country even though we are in the mist of trying to change society's preconceived ideas about gays. I just think Adam has always had an uphill battle to fight here in america and it will continue to be that way for him, unfortunately. a dinna understand why ur still with this husband , id have booted him oot te join the last 3 (sorry ave been at burritto,s bottle) Wow! That's harsh! :( Or did you make a joke ??? What she did is the beginning of change, which one can give her credit for! As she said, brainwashing is a powerful thing and believe me, I've seen it plenty in my life given my background (which are not the topic of discussion). The best way to deal with a situation like this is by exposing them to gay people as most of the time they are not in contact with gays. I personally went through exactly this situation and I'm glad to say by exposing friends of mine to some of may gay friends, they had a mind shift and today they are very good friends with my gay friends. By chasing them away is exactly the same as them chasing gay people away

[/IMG]
I think it did. This is because there was so much buzz surrounding the single release then and even some of the top 40 stations were buzzing about it. That was a popular LA HAC station that had announced Adam released a new single they would spin at so and so, and then they all chickened out. I just noticed a lot of those Clear Channel stations chickened out right after that incident. It was my observation and I'm not claiming to be in the know.
Well, if the stations chickened out, it wasn't because of Finland. I'm pretty sure about that. What happened in Finland wasn't a big deal at all, and both Adam and Sauli handled it incredibly well. Other artists have done way worse things, and radio still plays them.

There's an article on popcrush about Adam leaving 19 - but with a mighty typo in it: He’s not signed to RCA Records and to Direct Management Group, which also names Lambert’s pal Katy Perry as a client. 19 Records is still home to many ‘American Idol‘ alumni, including current champ Phillip Phillips. They wrote NOT instead of NOW *sigh* : :( popcrush.com/adam-lambert-leaves-record-label/

My two cents on Trespassing -- I do not judge the success of an album based on sales. Many of my favorite albums did not sell well. And many amazing songs were not hits because the timing was just wrong. For example, Etta James "At Last" peaked at #47 on the US Chart (all radio airplay in 1961).
I think there are a few gaps in terms of mainstream commercial success in the US and Canada.
> The album does not have a clear target market beyond committed Adam Lambert fans. It is not a dance album, it is not a funk album, it has some mid-tempo ballads. Adam's natural target market is adult women, but Cuckoo is a song that appeals to young teens. Generally, high selling albums appeal to genre buyers. That is why true multi-genre albums are rare.
> The album is very personal. Adam has said so in many interview. Adam's experience is not the same experience that his target audience has -- see above Adult Women.
> "Cuckoo" would have been my pick for single #2 but that is a teen pop song not representative of the album and not consistent with his big hit and signature song, WWFM.
Perhaps RCA could have done more with the album, but I am not sure. The first two singles got airplay, and BTIKM was #18 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart. That airplay did not convert into sales.
In retrospect, and knowing what didn't work, I guess it would have been better if they....
Dec 2011 - released Cuckoo online and promote over the holidays on streaming media with a buzzworthy video. Yes, with the straight jacket.
<Do NOT put NCOE on the album.>
March 2012 - release "Is This Love" as the lead single. Yes, I put a new track on the album. If they want Adam to sign a reggae song, make it a good one!!
May 2012 - release the album without NCOE, include Runnin' and Nirvana on the main album. Make Underneath a bonus track and add two new tracks.
Note: It is not that I do not appreciate Underneath, but it does not work well in the midst of the main album.
My tracklisting:
1. "Trespassing" Adam Lambert, Pharrell Williams Pharrell Williams 3:29 2. "Cuckoo" Lambert, Oliver Goldstein, Bonnie McKee, Josh Abraham, Anne Preven Abraham, Oligee, U-Tern (add) 3:03 3.
