I just finished a book about Mick Jagger and it got me to thinking about Adam singing Satisfaction on Idol. He really had to have some balls to sing that song...one of the best known and loved Rolling Stones songs. Adam knocked it out of the park! 8-) ETA: This was the first time I watched AI and saw Adam perform. He kept me coming back for more! ;D
Memory lane:

Also, Adam's poncho is a hand me down from Allan Louis? Here starting @:30. oh, so is Allan a drag queen? I remember Adam said that the poncho was given to him by a friend who is a drag queen. Yes, that is one of Allan's many personas. In drag, she is Mz. Allana, and Adam considers her his Drag Mother, if I have the term correct.

My point was that they built their fame on great music and albums, not radio. But that's not exactly true. Dave Matthews was HUGE on radio for years. Radiohead was an alternative radio fixture, as well (with a big, mainstream hit). The point is that their early radio success has given them the luxury of being able to tour today with large fanbases and no immediate need to do anything else highly commercial .
I see your point, bullsfan, as well as Q3's. But, touring has no or little correlation to radio & sales success, see Beth Ditto and Jake Shears, and many other "cult following" artists. They draw huge crowds to their concerts, no, not in the US, overseas, although their albums sales are still pretty mediocre to low even in those foreign markets. NO, I'm not suggesting Adam should become a cult following niche artist, nor do I ever wish that for him.
Radio and sales success unquestionably help touring a great deal, imagine IF TSP had been as much commercial success as FYE, or bigger, we would be talking about a real mid-size to arena world tour right now. But, as you pointed out earlier success paved the way, and Adam did have a big radio success with WWFM and moderate one with IIHY and those did help expand his fan base.
You and I both had hoped for a non-tour or a short one from very early on so I understand where you're coming from. It's not a question of his ability to tour, but a matter of what's the right move for Adam and RCA! After all, this is a business, and Pop is a fickle B*TCH!

Sagittarius, YES!! Everyone stood during Beth! As soon as he came out the audience stood up. The live audience that night was all for Adam! If only the votes from Los Angeles counted, Adam would have won!! That was such a huge, defining moment. On TV you could just see this wave of people stand up. Adam was truly the star of the night. Even now , that gives me such a thrill to know that. Honestly, you know Simon saw the response...it was magical. When Adam looked straight into the camera with all the sparkling glitter... :2tears: And to stand over the audience and sing so tenderly and then be absolutely outrageous with KISS...the best.

Do you remember Simon's face when Kris was announced as winner ? He was NOT happy! And the people backstage , KISS , the crew...waiting for the announcement . Some moment. I often wonder if the great Anthony Hopkins was there that night also.

Do you remember Simon's face when Kris was announced as winner ? He was NOT happy! Simon knew the outcome before the winner was announced. He had found out earlier in the day. He made a comment as he walked into the venue when asked who he thought would win. He said something like, "I'm afraid it won't be the right one" or something very close to that. I just read a book re Simon Cowell (a freebie, I would never waste the $$). Some pretty interesting facts re Idol and the money all the execs make off the finalist etc.

an interesting review of Trespassing: www.youtube.com/watch?v=28VrtI_GOkEShe said each time after listening to Underneath, she had to sit silently to let her ears get back to normal sound :-) Same for me. I always move it to the last track.
