Talent show finds - Star Search - Usher, Britney, Xtina, Justin Timberlake, Jessica Simpson, Rosie O'Donnell, Adam Sandler, Alanis Morissette, Beyoncé, Dave Chappelle, Destiny's Child, Dennis Miller, Justin Timberlake, Drew Carey, LeAnn Rimes, Ray Romano, Sinbad. Sharon Stone -- and many many many more. And that is just one talent show. Idol is a gnat compared to SS. Talent show find -- Frank Sinatra.

October 3, 1945 Ten-year-old Elvis stands on a chair at a microphone and sings "Old Shep" in a youth talent contest at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair and Dairy Show, held in Tupelo. The talent show is broadcast over WELO Radio. Winning fifth prize, Elvis receives $5.00 in fair ride tickets. (That was in my adopted home town -- Tupelo. )

I would say though, how many people came off SS and went directly on to being famous? Most of those you listed only became famous after appearing on other shows. They may have first appeared on SS, but it wasn't SS that propelled them to fame. Not saying that maybe they didn't get some notice from someone in the industry, but is that really a good comparison?

J-14 Magazine @j14magazine: J-14 Question of the Day: Who is your all-time favorite @americanidol winner?
lol My whole feed is answering "Adam Lambert". We figured, since it seems to be a common misconception, that we would go with the flow. Why fight it? ;D

I was trying to remember if Adam had ever been nominated previously for a GLAAD Media Award and so I googled it and found out this is the first nomination for him. Too bad he will be out of the country when his category is announced. It would of been nice to see him at the awards ceremony. No, google must be wrong! (is google ever wrong??) Adam was nominated as "Outstanding Music Artist" at the 21st GLAAD Media Awards in 2010! He was nominated with Lady Gaga (who won), Gossip, Brandi Carlile, and Otep. I attended the San Francisco awards! He was not there. So disappointed that Adam didn't win . . . no one spoke of him or responded to me when I spoke of him. I felt like a lonely fan that night. The good news was Sam Sparro performed! He sang "Black and Gold" and several other selections - wearing huge dark glasses the whole time. Chely Wright also performed - and received a huge ovation, as she had just 'come out'. The celebration honored Cybill Shepherd. It was a great party - and, except for feeling that Adam was just not 'accepted' by the community of supporters there - I did enjoy the food, the company, and the overall party atmosphere. I'll attend this year, again. I just hope the reception will be different. Even GLAAD has needed to evolve.

I too have experienced the chipmunk sound! I understand that the sound is from being close to really loud music for too long. Only time it was a bother really was at San Diego when Orianthi and Allison performed before Adam. I had ear plugs which I used that night and always take them with me but have never had to use them since.

Only time it was a bother really was at San Diego when Orianthi and Allison performed before Adam. I had ear plugs which I used that night and always take them with me but have never had to use them since. People here have said that it is my ears but I don't attend that many concerts, especially loud ones like rock concerts. So I haven't had that constant exposure to loud music. In my lifetime, I've only heard the chipmunk sound during Adam's concerts, and when there are multiple performers, I only hear it during his set. I've not heard it at every one of his concerts, just a handful, and I've heard it being far from the stage. And when I hear the chipmunk sound, everyone in my party hears it. If it was just "my ears", then why would everyone in my party hear it? I also hear it on the GNL DVD during the very beginning of Strut. I'm just not convinced it's "my ears". My DH, who attends these concerts with me, isn't convinced either.
