I went to 4 concerts; I heard the chipmunk sound at 1 concert-- Indy, but no one else in my party did. Everything was fine at Mystic Lake, Evansville, and Peoria. I always wore ear plugs for the opening acts but took them out for Adam. Don't know why it hit me the one time. Once I put in earplugs back in, my ears started working so I could hear him properly. Still a mystery to me.

People here have said that it is my ears but I don't attend that many concerts, especially loud ones like rock concerts. So I haven't had that constant exposure to loud music. In my lifetime, I've only heard the chipmunk sound during Adam's concerts, and when there are multiple performers, I only hear it during his set. I've not heard it at every one of his concerts, just a handful, and I've heard it being far from the stage. And when I hear the chipmunk sound, everyone in my party hears it. If it was just "my ears", then why would everyone in my party hear it? I also hear it on the GNL DVD during the very beginning of Strut. I'm just not convinced it's "my ears". My DH, who attends these concerts with me, isn't convinced either. Well, that is curious, I certainly didn't hear any chipmunks when I saw him perform in Arizona. I wonder if the sound system had something to do with it and his particular range. I thought he sounded amazing. And a friend that I had along who was unfamiliar with Adam was also impressed. No chipmunks that night. Can't wait to hear him live again, although I believe I have a long wait ahead of me. Probably next fall with the release of his 3rd album. Here is another theory of the chipmunk sounds, which sounds like it has more to do with the sound engineer: www.digitaldreamdoor.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=568&hilit=Adam+LambertSearch for "helium". I don't know if they are right either, but just sounds more plausible to me. It is a music forum.

Physics is definitely not my area, but I think the physics of sound and harmonics comes into play here. It has to do with the frequency of the harmonic tones, and their ability to cancel each other out. Adam's voice has so many layers of harmonics in it. Under certain circumstances and acoustics, I believe that the lower harmonics are combining to block each other out, and what you are left with are the higher harmonics in the voice, sounding like a chipmunk. Sorry I cannot explain it any better. But, it could be experienced differently depending upon where you are standing in the auditorium, how the sound system is set up, and possibly the shape of your ear canals and inner ear. How do ear plugs help? Well, they more efficiently block the highest frequencies, which then are not available to cancel out the low frequencies.

I was trying to remember if Adam had ever been nominated previously for a GLAAD Media Award and so I googled it and found out this is the first nomination for him. Too bad he will be out of the country when his category is announced. It would of been nice to see him at the awards ceremony. No, google must be wrong! (is google ever wrong??) Adam was nominated as "Outstanding Music Artist" at the 21st GLAAD Media Awards in 2010! He was nominated with Lady Gaga (who won), Gossip, Brandi Carlile, and Otep. I attended the San Francisco awards! He was not there. So disappointed that Adam didn't win . . . no one spoke of him or responded to me when I spoke of him. I felt like a lonely fan that night. The good news was Sam Sparro performed! He sang "Black and Gold" and several other selections - wearing huge dark glasses the whole time. Chely Wright also performed - and received a huge ovation, as she had just 'come out'. The celebration honored Cybill Shepherd. It was a great party - and, except for feeling that Adam was just not 'accepted' by the community of supporters there - I did enjoy the food, the company, and the overall party atmosphere. I'll attend this year, again. I just hope the reception will be different. Even GLAAD has needed to evolve. Just came back and found your response momtomany. Thanks so much for setting the record straight! I had kinda thought he was, but figured google was correct Really enjoyed hearing about your experiences at the San Francisco awards!

Wow... First time ever I've heard someone saying they don't like Adam's voice live. Reading Angelina Kalahari's blog, she said that everytime she hears Adam live she has to take a minute to adjust to his voice because it's higher than you'd expect. Maybe that's what you hear? Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing him live, that's for sure. But you're right, it's not only the voice. I'm looking forward to the whole Adam Lambert experience, actually. ;D Thanks for the comment! ETA: Q3, done!!! It's not that she didn't like Adam's voice - it's her ears. The same thing happened to me. There was a lot of discussion during GNT about it. Doesn't happen to many. It could be the loud music is too much for some ears. Good ear plugs were recommended - especially for any warm up acts. But if I get the chance, I will certainly go to see (and hear) him again. [/IMG] [/IMG]
I went to the Denver GNT and was on the 4th row and noticed he sounded kind of like Minnie Mouse, just something weird about his voice. Maybe it was their sound system or being up so close; however, I was just one person back from the stage at Winstar and this didn't happen, so I don't know what was going on with that. Other than that 1 time, he has sounded so good live! If you can get past all of the screaming going on, Denver was soooo loud my ears were ringing for a day and a half!
