I love beets too....but yeah, way too messy to cook. I buy them sliced and pickled in a jar.
OJ....rarely drink it...and never in the mornings. Guaranteed to make me nauseated. I think it's the acid. :-/
I love orange juice, but I never drink it ... too many calories (110+ in 8 oz.) for too little substance ... I've pretty much switched to the little mandarin orange "cuties" ... they are just as satisfying to me and are only 40 calories.
One rule I made quite awhile ago for myself: I (almost) never drink anything with calories in it (unless it also contains alcohol!). 8-) Because I can quench thirst with 0 calories, I'd rather save calories for satisfying hunger ...
Thanks for the roast recipe sugaree. That reminds what I did. I cooked my beets with Sun Power. Cut one side out of a box. Put tinfoil on the interior of the remaining three sides and bottom. Spray paint black a 1 quart canning jar. Put beets in the jar, fill with water, screw on the lid and place in the sun for the day. That night, empty the jar, squeeze the skins off and tada! fresh beets without cooking. I've eaten the greens raw too.
Another pound this week, 3 more to go and 3 weeks to do it ... I think I can do that. That's a total of 33 lost, 18 to go ... at this rate I'll be getting into those skinny clothes before summer is over! Woo Hoo!
YAY!!!! very great progress JustKaren, you are inspiring!!!
I lost 1.6 lbs this week, and I did go to town and get on official clinic scales, and my scales are accurate, which is good. Total loss in 2 weeks = 3.6.bs. I should make my goal of 6 lbs by 3/22, but I must say that I would like to keep this going, as I really have at least 30 more lbs to loose. This is weight that has been with me for a very long time. Every year, I go to the lake for vacation, and every year I am mad at myself for not getting this extra weight off. Every year, I think, this is the year I will work hard at this and slim down. I really want to look good in a swim suit, plus my doctor said I need to get cardio exercise daily. Maybe this is finally THAT YEAR. I still have not started exercising, but last weekend worked hard on repairing busted water lines from the freezes, lots of digging, lifting, etc. Congrats to everyone on their progress!
Gonna take you to the top, to the brink of what you believe
I have been regressing a little lately, although I'm still not doing terribly. When I'm in house fixerupper mode my diet and exercise always suffers.
Jablea, you asked recently about the Vita Mix recipes. The machine comes with a lot of recipes, but I never use them. I just throw random fruit and the occasional veggie in with some water and it's always good. I have a friend who has been making similar smoothies in the regular blender and she is often frustrated because of the consistency (sometimes chunky ). I was scared off by the price for a year even though I knew that it is a quality product. Maybe someone you know has one and you can do a taste test.
Not a vita mix thing, but here is a good idea for a satisfying and healthy "desert" -- yogurt mixed with wheat germ and fruit (berries, bananas, or peaches would be good). The wheat germ gives it a good texture (sort of like Graham cracker crust consistency). I used peach yogurt, but I bet key lime would taste like key lime pie and banana yogurt, bananas, and wheat germ like banana cream pie. I'm gonna try lime and banana and report back .

I don't know what's happening. These past two weeks I've stayed well within my allotted calories AND have exercised 40 minutes every day on my treadmill......didn't lose an ounce!
Still 6 lbs less than I was after Christmas, so all good! ;D
Don't be discouraged! 6 pounds is worth celebrating. Depending on where you started, 6 pounds can equal a belt notch! And just think, if you hadn't been paying attention to food and exercise, you might have gained another pound or two during that time. So it is all good ...
It seems like sometimes the body just needs to do a little "adjusting" or something, and those plateaus can be very frustrating. Another thing I have learned is if I eat anything salty (popcorn, teriyaki, almost any restaurant food) the day before I weigh in I won't show any weight loss ... but then 2 days later I'll drop a pound or two ... that salt causes water retention, and 2 cups of water weighs about a pound. That's also why I weigh in the morning BEFORE I have coffee ... that cup of coffee weighs .5 pound!
Well, checking in but my scale has gone off the deep end and I have no idea what I weigh. Everytime I step on it, it says something wildy different. Yikes. Think I am about the same. Changed diet and it's taking a while for my body to adjust. And my eating habits. Has anyone else had this kind of scale problem? Maybe I need to replace it.

Quietly checking because....I feel bad I gained 2 lbs. back. I have been eating some junk food especially since every Sunday now I go to my two grand kids wrestling meets and I'm there from 8:30am until 5:00pm or later and eat a lot of hot dogs, burgers, and chips type of things sold at the meets because that's about all they sell. So I'm just sitting and eating! :
Hopefully I can do more exercising the rest of the week.
