The whole American Inauguration thing every four years is so fascinating from a Canadian viewpoint cause there's NOTHING that happens here when there's a federal election. ZERO. ZILCH. If there's a new Prime Minister elected, there might be a dinner for him in some obscure building in Ottawa. Or maybe the new PM just wanders into his new office and sticks a picture of his wife and kids on his predecessor's desk. I dunno. I love our American Inaugurations. I love the pomp and the ceremony and the traditions steeped in history. I feel such intense pride and patriotism when the incoming president and vice-president take their oath of office surrounded by their families and their hands rest on a Bible that has great meaning to them. President Obama took his oath on the Lincoln Bible and the Martin Luther King family Bible. And when the President and the First Lady stop the motorcade and step out to walk for a bit and the crowds go crazy it brings me to tears. Then their beautiful Inaugural Ball dance makes me all gooshy inside. We know that the reality of politics will return soon, but something about this special day makes me forget about that for a while. Sorry this is OT. Just had to share.

If this is true, I don't blame the organizer to choose to pre-record her singing. President's inauguration's very important event, they didn't want to take a chance with any technical problem. We've known that some music director prefers to have pre-recorded for the NA performance for the Super Bowl and nothing different with this special event. Had another power outage today, so I'm way behind. My first thought was that whoever was in charge of the inauguration decided to have Beyoncé lip-synch TSPB.
As adamme said, this event was too important to leave to chance.
Folks get very emotional about how the national anthem is sung.

Did not mean to take away from anybody who expressed the same wish to see Bowie at this event in earlier threads. I had to do fly-by reading recently, so if I missed somebody's post, just see me as affirming you in your wishes. And MyS*&@^#r, I hear you about Bowie not having shown himself in many years, but then he also was not releasing a single and preparing to release an album in years, right? And yet, that did happen. And as a complete surprise to all but his closest friends and colleagues. So, I am just going to continue to think positive. Nothing to lose, if it does not happen, it is still all good. Re: the lip-sync discussion, here is my two cents worth: For me, what counts is the purpose of the event. If it is a musical event, then things should be kept real or not happen at all, imo. At least at a musical event that you would expect to hear live music. If I then find out that what I thought was live, was really canned music, I feel cheated. In this case though, the purpose of the event was not musical. The music is just a backdrop to the actual inauguration. It also is a high stakes event, where if music were live and then something were to happen, it would totally take the public and media attention away from where it should be. That is a price not worth paying. I have no problem, if something like the SSB is lip-synced at an event that cannot be repeated and has this high level of tension and attention drawn to it. The only thing that needs to change is that honesty up-front would probably avoid all this hoopla later. I feel bad for Beyonce to now be in this situation and I am glad it is not Adam, tbh. Same for Superbowls, etc....The future of musical singing quality or education about singing is not determined by what happens at a sports event. On the other hand, I am totally against all this group number lip-syncing during idol. That is a singing competition with no other redeeming value, but to present singers to the public. That should be live or not happen at all, and I could do without all these cheesy, but wanna-be snazzy group numbers anyway. Same of course for xfactor and voice, etc. Ok, now I get off my soap-box and go fix some dinner.

Oddly, the official statement on the SSB is not clear who decided for Beyonce to lipsync.
Sounds like PR BS to me. "it was decided..."
ETA: This is so funny...because the band and Beyonce recorded it the day before and Beyonce tweeted pictures of the recording session. Doesn't that count as a rehearsal?
Now everyone is tripping over each other....http://tucsoncitizen.com/usa-today-news/2013/01/22/beyonce-buzz-did-she-lip-sync-national-anthem/
>>> Maybe I do not want Adam to ever sing the SSB at one of these events. It so often ends up is a mess and not always because of the artist.

Yup, that just about covers the hoopla that goes on here and I'm all for being low-key. Elections are expensive and Canada doesn't have "built-in" 4 year mandates (we have "non-confidence" motions which can throw us right back into another election in no time. I think we once had two elections within 3 years. That said, love being a Canuck. Maybe AFL will come visit again when things warm up. Gonna be -38C with the windchill tonight (or -36 F).

When I read that it was being reported that Beyoncé did "lip-sync" I thought it was really strange (I get CNN via cable in my country, so I watched the ceremony). I always notice, so I went back and checked. SHE DIDN'T. Just watch a YouTube video before slamming her. I'll try to insert one, but I don't know if it will work (if not, www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGDH18R7GfA, or search on YouTube).

lol We don't have an Inauguration thing here either. So for us it's kind of fascinating to watch all that hoopla. Here, they win and that's it.
