. I think what makes it so sexy when Adam does it but not others is that he is not doing it because of choreography ala MJ nor is it a power display as in rap.. huh... I always thought MJ did it to see if was still there

I've seen Adam's AI performances many times, but I still remember my initial reaction to ROF. It was "Am I watching a subversive element right in the midst of prime-time wholesome family-friendly American TV??" The next thing, I was curious to see if the judges would realize how rebellious that was. They did and they didn't. I think that what made Simon so irritated, and the others a bit confused. Now if you'd ask me what was subversive about it, I wouldn't be able to answer. Maybe partly because he took such a traditional American genre and turned it inside out, stripped it of its "American" features, gave it a completely different flavor, and added such raw sexuality and sensuality to it. And still it was in accordance with the song's lyrics, so it "made sense". I don't know how to explain it, I'm rambling here, sorry .
ETA why are my fonts different than everyone else's? ???

I confess I've never understood why some people felt confused about ROF. I understand even less why some people felt uncomfortable. The only thing I thought when I first watched it was: "OMG, that was EPIC!!! The vocals!!! Such an amazing version!!!! And he's sex on legs!!!" But I never felt confused. And of course, I never felt uncomfortable. To the people who felt confused, why did you feel that way? Confused about what? Was it the eastern arrangement? The arrangement confuses me to this day I do like it but still, WTF Glampoon - can you please explain WHY it is "WTF" for you... the reason I am asking is that I AM confused by the original version to be frank...i.e. - there was NOTHING passionate in Cash's version, not a bit of "desire" expressed in music or singing despite the lyrics talking about it... it sounded like some polka / macarena piece...so, I can't see how Adam's PASSIONATE, almost LUSTY version is "WTF" and the original is "GOOD"...( My apologies to JC's purists here...)

Since we're sharing our ROF reactions: I had been barely paying attention to Idol 8 but I noticed Adam right from the beginning because of his musical roots - the back story and Wicked intrigued me. But I didn't really have a strong reaction to him until ROF. I was actually on the phone talking to a client when the his number came on, and I saw ROF on a tiny TV screen that was in my office. The sound wasn't even on! I watched him do this song and was completely transfixed by just the visuals while the client babbled on and on in my ear. When I hung up, I realized that I couldn't remember anything he had said to me! I checked out youtube the next day and was hooked, but the one that really pushed me over the edge was If I Can't Have You. I think we were all a pool of Abdul after that.

Yeah, as I said my personal top three is crowded... and the best one is impossible... but top two is easy: Chokehold and Shady. Chokehold grabbed me at first listen at Jezebel ~a year ago and Shady is funky as hell, just the way I like it. And I am very excited of its 'real' premiere this week. I am also very curious what other funky CHIC tracks will Adam sing???? Surely 'We are family' but what else cause I want to be prepared and check out the songs beforehand... iirc Nile played guitar on Let's Dance so I'd be surprised if they didn't do that. I hope they do a Sam Sparro song too, this one would sound sooooooo good -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18Mtcem90_k That is so good. Adam, Sam, Nile, horn section .... I can not wait, it is going to be so fucking funky.

Because I grew up hearing it as a fun Country song, then suddenly it's an Egyptian porn soundtrack, what's not WTF about that
