Yup being gay and sexual .. Other gay artists are not sexually appealing like Adam..for some , real scary stuff. I believe he tried to tone it down, possibly the pressure talked about by Sam, with Trespassing. When his album went to #1 on BB200 as the FIRST GAY artist, he was labeled again, potential buyers may have felt the album was too gay. Adam being Adam will be himself, thank god, and will let the chips fall where they may. However ,I still think even with that attitude, what else can he do. Adam desires acceptance and popularity by the 'popular kids i.e. the Brunos, the Rhiannas, etc.and certainly by the music industry and radio. It's ~interesting to me that the same people who say "stop making it about the gay" when an interview focuses "too much" on his sexuality are the first people to use the gay as an excuse for why Adam isn't getting the attention they think he should. If it were about Adam being gay WWFM wouldn't have been successful. That song was released immediately following the gayest thing Adam has done in his career....crotch nuzzle and big gay kiss.....if that didn't scare them off then nothing else was going to. There wasn't a NEW gay label placed on Adam when his album went #1 on the BB200....he was ALREADY gay....people already knew and sorry nothing was as gay as his FYE cover. If that OTT picture didn't scream BIG GAY ALBUM then nothing would and it sold just fine.

IMHO he went to bat for Adam on radio big time.. I remember our angsting when The first song,FYE came out and went nowhere, the label immediately went to the second song. It was not easy getting Adam on the air to start with.Once he was heard over and over again he was a hit with WWFM. The FYE cover was a big shock to some and from what I read at the time, Many folks were embarrassed to buy the CD from the stores. Yes the album did well, different time.. albums were selling much better than. Such fond memories. As far as the gay thing.. I'm not even going to debate with you. You can think what you want ,just as I have my core belief. We all have a right to feel and think as individuals.. so express away.

Fans claim they want the focus to stop being about Adam being gay but at the same time they want to blame him being gay on his perceived lack of acceptance by radio. I don't think Adam's lack of radio play has anything to do with his sexuality and everything to do with picking the wrong singles and RCA dropping the ball promo wise.

I do wish Barry, thanks for remembering his name,Weiss was still at RCA. To change the subject a bit,I really think TV made Adam and TV is the medium for him. There is nothing better than seeing Adam in action.. LIVE even better.

Shady with Sam and Nile is the first time I've truly enjoyed it live. Amazing Hiya, bear. I'm way back here on page 2, so I don't know if yours was an unpopular opinion or not. FWIW, I completely agree with you. Shady is a song I happen to like a lot on the album. But until this WAFF performance with Nile, Chic, and Sam, there hasn't been a live performance of the song I've enjoyed very much at all. This performance kicked all kinds of ass.

In the interest of keeping to the facts, for the thousandth time WWFM was not released after the AMA's. FYE was getting negative feedback from PD's before the AMA's and Z100 and Saturday Online BOTH played WWFM in mid November. Z100 pushed the song heavily but take note though that the song was not sexual in nature and Pink as writer was mentioned in EVERY interview and Adam was painstaking in making the song about relationships in general. Just as with LLWD by Kris Allen many, many people who love the song have no idea it is Adam singing it. In many areas DJ's would emphasize the Pink connection more than who was singing the song just as with LLWD the connection to The Script was played upon heavily.
As for WWFM's airplay being of any consequence as far as "proving" Adam's sexuality is not a factor, that I say is bullshit. All it does is provide the stations with the perfect inoffensive cover for whatever prejudice they may have. It "proves" nothing. They are not going to be stupid enough to openly refuse to play the gay guy so all they really have to do is not really give him enough of a chance. Kind of like "damning with faint praise". At the same time that WWFM was being played radio tried like hell to make Orianthi happen by playing the hell out of her song regardless of the fact that sales never really matched the exposure the song was getting. Adam will likely never be the beneficiary of that kind of radio support and I do think PART of that is because he is gay. Most of us who say his sexuality is a factor consider it just part of the picture but as soon as it gets mentioned we get accused of claiming "it's all because of the gay".
Bottom line is many people have a negative preconceived opinion about gay people and if you think this does not affect their decision making processes you are living in fantasy land. Most of radio is controlled by very conservative types even moreso now than when WWFM was a hit because Clear Channel was bought out by people even more conservative than the ones who owned it before. Given the political landscape of gay rights over the past couple of years it is mind boggling to me that anyone could think that his sexuality is a total non issue.

Someone in today's conversation referred to Adam as having moderate success. I guess when compared to the few artists with the highest sales and tour numbers, that is true. (And we do want Adam to be in that group!) However, it is good to remember that when Adam is viewed as a part of all the solo artists and bands out there trying to make a living as musicians, he is doing extraordinarily well - hugely successful. I have a kid in the music business. He is a moderate success, and his life does not look anything like Adam's, even though statistically he is somewhere in the top 1-and-a-half percent just because he can actually cover his living expenses from his music.peace&love
