2013 MARKETSHARE: UMG, REPUBLIC ARE TOPS AFTER 10 WEEKS______________________________________________________________________________ Thanks to EMI Acquisition, Team Lucian Emerges Triumphant March 18, 2013 UMG spent $1.9 billion to acquire EMI, but it proved to be worth its weight in marketshare, as Lucian Grainge’s newly constructed powerhouse opens up a 10 percentage point lead, 38.9%-28.9%, on former colleague Doug Morris’ Sony Music in the first survey of 2013 at the 10-week mark, representing 20% of the year. For the complete chart, click here. Monte Lipman’s Republic Records leads the way for Team Lucian by scoring a hefty 9.9%, giving the label, thanks to the Les Miserables soundtrack at #7, an almost three percentage point lead on Peter Edge and Tom Corson’s resurgent RCA, sitting at #2 with 7%, a full 2.3 percentage points up on last year. With A$AP Rocky (#9) and P!nk (#13) in the Top 15, and Justin Timberlake coming up on March 19, the Nipper is poised to have some bite in 2013. The indie sector is showing considerable strength, with three albums in the Top 15, including Glassnote’s Mumford & Sons at #1, leading the way for Daniel Glass’ label to crash the To 10 at #9, with a 2.9%, .2.3 percentage points over 2012. Dualtone’s The Lumineers (#4) and Razor & Tie’s Kidz Bop 23 (#14) are the other two indies in the Top 15, while Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Thrift Shop” is #1 in Digital Track sales, with the Lumineers’ monster hit “Ho Hey” at #4. Jimmy Iovine and John Janick’s Interscope Geffen A&M finishes third in the round-up at 6.4%, with Steve Barnett’s reconstituted Capitol Music Group at #4 with 6.3, while Atlantic and Rob Stringer’s Columbia are in a virtual dead heat at #5 with 5.8. source: www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news09324

>>> AMAZON ENTERS THE FRAY: Following the reported leads of Apple and YouTube, Amazon is the latest to indicate an interest to enter the streaming subscription music race. Sources say the online retailer would like to launch an on-demand service that would compete with the likes of Pandora, Rdio and Rhapsody. If Amazon does decide to do so, it already has much of the infrastructure in place, including cloud music storage and its Cloud Player, which allows customers to stream songs from its servers. >>> JUSTIN TIME FOR THE BIZ: Now that's better. Industry pundits are now wondering aloud if the new Justin Timberlake album, The 20/20 Experience, which hit retail today, could hit 600k in first-week sales upon its debut a week from today. The RCA disc has officially broken the digital preorder record of 136lk set by One Direction last year by "a few thousand units." The eagerly awaited JT release, the first of two this year, was available for preorder for only five weeks, half the time of the 1D set-up. source: www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgi______________________________________________________________________________ >>> " I've got to clear up the rumors," he said during the launch, which also included an interview with Ryan Seacrest, per Reuters. " This whole thing about this only being the first part…is true. There is another half." So there you go: straight from the source. The singer himself, however, wasn't about to spill everything about his follow-up. This past weekend, Roots drummer Questlove—who recently deejayed before the singer's MySpace SXSW show—set the rumor mill spinning when, while responding to a less-than-flattering New York Times review of The 20/20 Experience, he (prematurely?) revealed that Timberlake had more music up his sleeve. "i will say the album is OVERLY ambitious. like a LOT of ideas crammed into one," he wrote on an Okayplayer.com message board. "spoiler alert. 20/20 Vol 2 comes out in nov. (10 songs now.....10 songs later= 20 vision)." If that projected release date does prove to be true, you can bet fans will be keeping a keen eye out for J.T.'s 20/20 follow-up later this year. source: www.eonline.com/news/398992/justin-timberlake-confirms-the-20-20-experience-volume-2-album-in-the-works

"Harlem Shake" remains at No. 1, but a hefty loss in streaming closes the gap between the track and "Thrift Shop," which crowns Digital Songs for a 10th week. Plus: P!nk enters the Hot 100's top 10 Baauer leads the Billboard Hot 100 for a fifth week with "Harlem Shake," although the viral smash registers a fourth consecutive week of declines in YouTube streaming. As a result, the song's lead shrinks considerably over the chart's No. 2 title, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' former four-week No. 1 "Thrift Shop," featuring Wanz. After "Shake" entered the Hot 100 at No. 1 concurrent with the addition of U.S. YouTube video streaming data to the chart, online momentum for the song, the viral hit thanks to its pop culture-conquering meme, slips for a fourth straight week. "Shake" holds at No. 1 on the Nielsen BDS-based Streaming Songs chart with a 42% decrease to 28 million streams, down from 48 million last week. It logged 54 million the week before, 98 million three weeks ago and 103 million upon its Hot 100 debut. "Shake," does, however, increase in on-demand audio streaming. It falls 16-19 on the audio subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart but with a 17% gain to 739,000 streams. ********* ********* P!nk produces her 14th Hot 100 top 10, as "Just Give Me a Reason," featuring fun.'s Nate Ruess, vaults 18-9. The third single from her first Billboard 200 No. 1 album, "The Truth About Love," jumps 8-5 on Digital Songs (171,000, up 40%), 42-19 on Streaming Songs (2.1 million, up 86%) and 44-31 on Radio Songs (38 million, up 43%). She began her Truth About Love tour on Feb. 13, likely helping spur the song's continued across-the-board progress. Ruess, meanwhile, makes his first solo top 10 appearance on the Hot 100, following fun.'s six-week No. 1 "We Are Young" and No. 3-peaking "Some Nights." source: www.billboard.com/articles/news/1553826/baauer-tops-hot-100-for-fifth-week-despite-continued-streaming-slide

I hope St. Petersburgh sells many thousands of tickets to Adam's concert. Well, mellie, I don't really have a clue regarding Adam's album and concert sales in Russia and Ukraine (I wish I understood just a little bit of the language.... :( ). It appeared that there weren't any official sources or reliable local fans reports of such info, either, 'cuz if there were, Q3 would've been able to update the concert attendance sheet on the front page. Guess we'll just have to rely on the pics to get some idea in regard to the sales. As I said it before, this little mini tour is not meant to boost Trespassing's sales in a significant way but to make the best out of it (and more importantly, put some serious cash in Adam's pocket and DMG's as well). He didn't get much sales boost in Asia, even after all those mega TV and media exposures, therefore, I don't really expect anything otherwise from Russia and Ukraine (Piracy is just as rampant in those 2 countries and neither is a significant market for music sales).
