I don't know about Brazilians' interest in country music, but there aren't any country music acts scheduled to perform so far. But who knows ... not all of the acts have been announced yet.  ETA: I assumed the first post was classifying P2 as a country artist. P2 is not a country artist. His big hit "Home" was #6 on the Hot 100, #1 on the US AC and Adult Pop charts, #2 on the Rock chart and #8 on the Pop chart. It has sold over 4 million units in the US. But it did not break into the US Country charts. Hmmmm -- I thought he sang country on Idol -- the little I watched. Well, good for him -- Home was sort of the US Olympic Team song or something too, right? I just see Rio as more of a dance party....... |

I can only chalk it up to 2 things. 1) Interscope is AMAZEBALLS! 2) It could be linked to his few shows he is doing with John Mayer over summer. He is performing on the same stage the same day. Perhaps his management somehow got a 2 for deal and he is playing for free just to get the exposure. I am guessing that the people at that stage on that day are going to go, "Who??" |

Doesn't really matter re P2 he doesen't have the staying power nor the international following that Adam has. P2 is a nice guy or he seems but he got really luckey when Home was used as almost a theme song for the US Olympics Team, the song became a hit for more the lyrics then the vocals. As opposed to WWFM that takes a techniquley skilled vocalist to sing it, it was because of Adams vocals why it became a huge hit. Adam has a very edgy voice and look so not everyone is going to warm to him off the bat, opposed to P2 who is safe and commerciable, Adam just needs to release the right stuff, its all about timing and luck. Although I hope DMG has a big plan in terms of the rollout of album #3, need to get Adam on TV alot.

Since PP is from Georgia and a lot of country singers are from the South it is easy to see why some would think he is a country artist. He also has a very lay back demeanor which can also evoke a county artist IMO, but no he is not county. I would classify him as HAC myself, but I don't know much about his work other than Home which is a good song. Yes, I know that saying country singers are often from the South is probably an untrue stereotype.
I am jazzed that some US dates are popping up. Del Mar is usually balmy and pleasant during the summer.

I am not sure what level of success it is going to take for Adam for ME not to be annoyed at this kind of thing, but it hasn't happen yet. My pettiness is showing and it is not pretty. I am going to check and see if I have some Zen juice in the refrigerator. Don't feel bad. I saw the news yesterday on MJs and was so bummed out. Yes, I am jealous. I've said in the numbers thread that I thought he was the luckiest man in music. |
