Madonna did not have some fool politician passing a stupid, stupid, foul law denouncing gays. It sickens me. It took courage for Adam to go there. I hope there comes a day he can tell anyone who wants to pass a sick law like that to "FUCK OFF." Not sure what you mean, but the law was passed a year ago. And the there was several protests against Madonna performing and pickets at her concert. Madonna was also affirmatively opposed to the law and spoke out against it. www.hrw.org/news/2012/03/12/russia-block-st-petersburg-s-homophobic-law St. Petersburg Assemblymember VladimirMilonov let the effort against Madonna's concert and instigated the multi-million lawsuit against her that was dismissed in court. www.ontopmag.com/article.aspx?id=12666www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/23/madonna-lawsuit-russia-gay-rights_n_2176566.html*** Adam, on the other hand, is not political and made absolutely no mention of the St. Petersburg law or Vladamir Putin's effort to pass a national anti-gay law before or during the concert. www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/madonna-st-petersburg-russian-concert-gay-pride-ban-360563 The only reason for Milonov to attempt to get this concert cancelled is because Adam is gay, not for any fear of what Adam would do. From the The Moscow Times The prosecutor declined to take any action. I assume Adam was aware that this report was made to the US State Department. I am very pleased nothing happened and that Adam put on such a great show and that he performed OOL in St. Petersburg.

Yep, when Adam traveled to both Utah and Idaho (two conservative US states) during his first tour, Fever did not include kissing Tommy. Wait--what? I know Adam didn't bring the GNT to Utah, 'cause I live here and I had to go to San Diego and Los Angeles to see him! The American Idol season eight tour came to Utah, but of course there wasn't any kissing of Tommy in it because there was no Fever and there was no Tommy in that tour. ETA: I messed up the quote somehow and can't seem to fix it.

Viv, I never read that the concert in SP was almost cancelled. I think this was just people talking, and it must have been in other places than here, because I did not see that.
I saw that this guy Milonov requested that the concert be off-limits to teenagers, but not that he got anywhere with this. My impression is that while this guy has managed to get legislative influence in SP, he presently has not yet got executive influence and certainly not judiciary powers. And he does rub a lot of people the wrong way locally too. Not totally different from some local nutcases as well.
The difference is, a) his legal influence that created that law, which was passed in SP last year and is being considered in many other places because of that. b) the second difference is that the police and law enforcement are generally quite hostile towards gays and therefore there are risks for local LGBT members in Russia in general. But, as was pointed out, Adam, as a foreigner would not be treated in similar way even if there was any detention or arrest situation. And obviously, nothing happened anyhow.
I am very thankful that all went well. Adam was able to stand up for his cause in SP and he was both brave as well as prudent and good fortune was with him too. And I have mighty respect for all the fans that did go in spite of all the negative situation.
otherwise catching up and trying to follow up with clarification re: ticket prices and salaries, as promised:
Here is what I was able to find for Moscow: Prices for the concert ranged from $ 50 - $ 800
For average salary in Moscow is about $ 34,000 - 48,000 dollars depending on source of info. Outside of Moscow and SP, it is significantly less (by factor 2-3 less). And as many here have pointed out, there is a huge spread in income.
Seeing these numbers it is clear that the tickets were affordable for some, but very expensive or even out of reach for others. Overall not totally incomparable to what we would experience here in the US too.
From what I read about Ukraine it is even more complicated and the concert prices were more out of reach:
a) the income spread is even bigger and official figures are hard to come by, because most people have secondary sources of income beyond the official salaries from 'bonuses' and other unreported sources and from second or third jobs.
b) Between major annual adjustments and inflation effects and fluctuations to USD it is impossible to take any numbers from further back than 2-3 years to be meaningful. Lots of info on the web is dated.
c) I have not been able to get ticket price range info for this concert. Does anyone here know those numbers?
Based on the unreliable info I was able to come by, I worked out ticket prices in the range of 20 % of a avg. monthly city wage (official wage only). That would be a lot of money! Bottom-line: Ukraine was very expensive to attend, but without better info it is hard to say anything more than that.
