If you account is private, I believe the @tweet account can see it only if your tweet starts with @tweet, but general non-followers cannot see it.
OK, just checked on twitter. Only people you approve as followers can see your tweets.
What is the difference between public and protected Tweets?
- When you sign up for Twitter, you have the option to keep your Tweets public (the default account setting) or to protect your Tweets.
- Accounts with protected Tweets require manual approval of each and every person who may view that account's Tweets.
Who can see my Tweets?
- Public Tweets (the default setting) are visible to anyone, whether or not they have a Twitter account.
- Protected Tweets may only be visible to your approved Twitter followers.
- Your Tweets will only be visible to users you've approved.
- Other users will not be able to retweet your Tweets
For private Twitter accounts, general Tweets and @replies are only seen by your followers, and these tweets will not show up in search results. But an @tweet can be seen by the account you addressed it to.
So for the radio request -- it send as a reply from a Private Account it would not be seen by a radio station that did not follow you. BUT if you send it as an @tweet addressed to the radio station's account, the radio station can see that one tweet.
I just had to test to make sure. And that is how it actually work.
ETA: The Twitter info is just so poorly documented, and the way some parts of it work are not well documented. Kind of odd since it is so popular and it is basically so simple.
