Adam is the one who said it's been on it's way out for the last couple of months. That is what I am going with.

I am not sure whether to laugh or be appalled that that is the list of things most people are interested in...

First of all, I am just certain Sauli will be fine. Since Sauli has the Fox Finland TV Program he qualifies as a foreign correspondent and can stay in LA. If he wants to do something beyond Finland, he will have an international fanbase because many Adam fans know him,m others are fans, and that is a huge asset. ** We know so little about this relationship and how it ended. We do know that they are still friends and appear to be happy. But I do not think this happened months ago. It looks to me like the decision was very recent -- after the interview posted below. A&S seemed quite happy together in December 2012 at the Divas After Party, Sauli was with Adam for part of the WAG Tour, Adam did that wonderful bow/intro to Broken English. (Video deleted by Q3 so that I do not confuse anyone with my error.)
In the interview done on 4.4.13 (published on 4.5.13) Adam is quoted as saying -- “It’s been kind of on its way out in the last couple of months.” “Sauli and I remain really good friends, and I know it’s a cliché thing to say. But it’s totally true. I just gave him a coffee and bagel earlier today. He’s a great person and we’ve had an amazing couple of years together. Things have just run their course.” “I’ve been getting really busy and traveling a lot and and he’s been getting really busy because he has a show he’s filming for Finnish television. So we just decided to part ways.” I agree that the final decision did not happen months ago. But I would say they have been trying to work it out for about 2 months, since the end of January. I am guessing they finally decided about a week ago, but may have been "used to " the idea already. Anyway, they both seem to be doing fine. You close with the most important thing: "they both seem to be doing fine." And yes, if they decided after that interview on 3.28.13 then it was a week before Adam did the interview. They were apart for a large part of January-March so that would have given them a lot of time to get "used to" the idea of not being together even if the decision was not made yet. ** On Sauli, in his Fault interview, he said he was planning a project in English.

Q3 Quote:
'The part that puzzles me is Adam's March 28, 2012, interview with Fernando and Greg from 99.7 NOW, San Francisco.'
So, this interview was over a year ago (while Adam was doing the infamous radio promotion tour for Trespassing) and at that time they were still going strong. Adam was very much deeply in love.
I recall some 'current boyfriend' comments from Adam and in my memory I am placing them late summer/fall 2012. They were still going strong, but I thought it was the first time that Adam let it show in noticeable way that he did not think of this relationship as 'forever'. Mostly this came up whenever somebody asked him about marriage and prior to the election (Nov. 2012) those topics were everywhere.
But yet, they were still very much together with no immediate end in sight. Somewhere in the beginning of 2013 things did start to feel quite differently and around his birthday I had a pretty strong feeling that things had changed. We had major discussions here in the following weeks leading up to Valentines Day. And Adam's greeting on that day then was rather brief, certainly not the Rakastan from a year earlier.
Now he says that it had been on its way out over the last few months. That all adds up in timeline. I think they made their decisions in January and from then on planned the exit path. It shows how very much a team they still were over the last few months that they pulled that off together, including the whole visit to Finland, that we thought was the 'great homecoming' for both of them and yet we know now that Adam must have dreaded it to some degree. I thought that leaving St.P he must have been relieved and in a political sense he probably was, but yet the Helskinki chapter for him was much more difficult than we noticed and I now understand why he cancelled so much press. He would have had to lie.
Instead he chose to say nothing and handle the actual visit including the concert in a very classy way and together with Sauli. And then they waited a while to let that be digested and overtaken by other news and now we find out.
Adam and Sauli have lived with all this info since months, they are in a totally different space than we are.
But yes, while Adam was very much in love, I don't believe he ever fully believed in forever and certainly did not believe it anymore last fall. And actually, I don't believe that this has anything to do with Sauli himself, I just think that Adam may not truly believe in forever - period. He just starts thinking about it more when things have settled down and not during the time of first infatuation.
Adam is a child of divorce and he always said his parents' separation was a complete surprise to him. That does shake you up, because if you cannot see it coming in your parents' life, then how will you be sure that you will know in your own life. All kids of 'surprise' parent break-ups have this 'trust' topic hanging over their lives. Other types of divorces - other issues.
And Adam is naturally a doubter and so that will always be with him. But Adam is also very enthusiastic and so he can fall in love and be on cloud nine for a while and yet, when he thinks it through, he does realize that it is not looking like forever for him. I think in some way, this will always be a self-fulfilling prophecy in his life.

I am not sure whether to laugh or be appalled that that is the list of things most people are interested in... I look at it as the glass being half-full: Adam is well-known and/or popular enough that people actually are interested in the fact that he and his boyfriend broke up. Hopefully the next time he is at the top of the list it will be for his music, not his love life.

Just wanted to put a big thank you out there to all of you -- can you see me telling my son that I'm upset because Adam broke up with Sauli -- I'd really be getting "the look". I did tell my dh though -- just in passing -- not like freaking out or anything. So, it's been great to come here and share thoughts with everyone. I just don't want to see people taking sides and blaming and stuff like that cuz, really, we don't know anything. I will miss seeing them together in the photo ops -- I know it will bother me when Sauli is seen out with someone new and vice versa cuz I'm over-invested -- and, I'm gonna work on that. Their breakup was sort of a rude awakening for me -- it really shouldn't have bothered me -- really! Looking forward to the recaps from Miami!! Cheers to y'all!
