I believe that Mr. Kent sees himself as one of the "... unheralded champions of justice that fight the good fight for LGBT justice everyday." and that makes him more worthy of the Davidson/Valentini Award than Adam.
He is jealous. I suspect you are right, 4Msrmyn. Very sad to think like that.

Uh, I'm a right wing Republican and I totally denounce everything this man said. Be careful stereotyping people. You are too fast ,I realized this myself and took it off.. but you beat me to it. :| We all mess up now and then...no worries.

Sigh. And some in the LGBT community continue to eat their own. I thought of a dozen things to say in response to the article, but realized that nothing I could say would change such bitter minds. WE know from hundreds, maybe thousands of testimonials and even personal experiences how Adam's willingness to be open and honest about his orientation has changed and even saved lives. WE know that Adam's goal was never to be the role model and poster boy for the gay rights movement, but, when thrust into that position, he embraced the chance to encourage acceptance, love and diversity. WE know that just by being courageously and unapologetically himself as a celebrity in the international spotlight, he has helped advance equal rights. Are there many other anonymous people working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring about change? Of course. Are those folks worthy of recognition? Definitely. But, that's the way celebrity and fame work, guys, like it or not. Celebrities use their fame to advance their careers and to advance the causes they support. (How many celebrities have publicly endorsed one or another political candidate and even testified in the Senate about such causes, even when there are many experts who could speak to the issues better?) Folks supporting a cause also USE famous people to get the visibility and voice they want. Political candidates latch onto the popular "cause du jour" and "celebrity du jour" to get publicity and votes. It's all part of "the game." Maybe this author would like to take back Martin Luther King's Nobel Peace Prize. There are countless, nameless people who worked as passionately and hard as MLK to advance equal rights; who even died for the cause. Why should MLK have streets named after him, and not those others? Okay, I know I am preaching to the choir. But, it just pisses me off that Adam goes to Miami and donates (I assume) his time and talent, Adam gives this magazine the broadest awareness it has ever gotten, Adam crashes their website, and they trash him for it. WE all know that Adam would have greater success and recognition as an artist if he had just kept his mouth shut about his orientation and stayed in the closet like so many artists feel they must in order to have a career. WE all know the courage it takes to perform despite state department security warnings and bomb threats. WE all know what Adam is accomplishing by being Adam. It is a shame some others can't see it. But, GLAAD finally has! Bravo. I think this guy's one of the hardcore activist, in their eyes, if you don't go march on the street or demo carying signs, you don't do anyting for the community. This guy and his partner don't want to see all the bold parts cassie's pointed out above. Adam's way is the soft way, it sneaks on people and easier for some people to accept and embrace his lifestyle. It's another eason why Adam could have his concerts in countries like Malaysia, Indonesia (Jakarta) and St. Petersburg. I think it's one of Adam's achievement on the movements.
