4.29.13 Adam's night out = press covers for Trevor Project!

A lot of out celebs never got the public support that Jason has gotten. I don't think Ellen or NPH or any of the well known out stars have ever gotten a President to call them and congratulate them. But that's how it is because of 1) different times and social/cultural attitudes when they come out 2) out stars in the sports world is rare opposed to the entertainment world, etc etc. He's in a very unique situation as far as all the kudos he has gotten, but he also will prolly get a lot of backlash for this from assholes. Being a sports guy and being out like this, the first one, cannot be easy. He should be applauded, and as much as we'd love to see certain people get their "due", we really can't compare him to Adam or anyone else.

They each have their unique paths to travel, their set of challenges to overcome, and in the end each will end up getting their "due" no matter how quickly it comes or how many Presidents call or don't call them.

IN CONCLUSION:

This could all amount to a demo that goes nowhere but hopefully something comes of it. I am going to stay in the here and now. It is great that Adam is working with great people. It may turn out to be something or it may indirectly influence the direction of A3.

It would be nice if Adam was in a position to get a guaranteed release but he really is not. The only single he wrote (Trespassing) did not chart in the US. Songwriters and producers with a proven track record of producing big hits get release guarantees.

But if Adam is a featured artist on another artist's recording, he would get a small share of royalties and some press. And if it is the right recording and artist, it could help build radio credibility (like Kesha and Bruno Mars).

 

Jason Colllins coming out reminded me of Eber's wonderful speech in 2009.  In part he said:

When Junior told me that the folks here tonight were going to be from Sports organizations and the Gay Lesbian Center. At first I thought it was an odd combination. But when I thought about it I thought that actually it’s a natural pairing. Sports in our culture has always been on the leading edge of civil rights.
In the early days of baseball and football, this is where bigotry against certain religions and nationalities were diminished, Irish, Italians, Eastern Europeans segregated in cities came together is sports. In the 50s and 60s pro sports integrated African American and Hispanic players and later Asian players. I read somewhere that there are currently 1700 players and field coaching personnel in the NFL. Which means just from the population that there is easily 100-150 gay men in the NFL if not much more. Yet no openly gay players exist. You could do the same math with the NBA or MLB.
Because as you all know, in sports it doesn’t matter what race or ethnicity you are, your religion, your orientation usually not even your gender, you just need to show up and bring it. That’s all that matters. Play the game.
So I think and hope in the next few years we’ll see pro sports once again be a pace setter in civil rights. This would be pretty cool.
And it would take some of the burden off of the open gay pop singers in the world.

I hope no one thought I was seriously pining away for Adam to get a call from a president.  Or from Jay-Z.  I was being a bit snarky.  But I was also being a bit truthful in that my-loved-ones-should-get-all-the-recognition-they-deserve sort of way.  And I hope I was clear that I have nothing but support and admiration for Jason Collins and Frank Ocean.

Sometimes in the world of quick posts it is difficult to know if one has inadvertently given the wrong impression.
