I've been thinking about how the stars aligned themselves to make Adam who he is. Like all of us, he was born with certain traits and gifts. But it's one thing to be given those, it's quite another to develop our gifts and good traits to their full potential or to tame the not-so-good ones.
Here are some of the traits/gifts nature provided: those incredible vocal chords, timeless stunning looks, honesty, intelligence, generosity of spirit, humor, being an extravert and his intensity (his dark side). Those of course are only a few but the ones that I feel mattered in making Adam who he is.
Nurturing is another matter altogether. Think of children born to royalty. They are trained from their earliest years in etiquette, demeanor, proper elocution and behavior. It's as though Adam's parents knew where Adam's path would lead him and gave him the same training (without the haughtiness of royal grooming).
His extensive vocabulary and perfect pronunciation make anything he says a joy to listen to (not talking about content here). He has an easy-going warmth and innate charm that draw you in. He has impeccable posture which I so envy!!! Those I firmly allocate to nurturing.
I think that growing up in Adam's home, humor and wit were de rigueur. Between his dad and his brother, it was a survival skill that had to be honed! And his mother epitomizes graciousness which she obviously instilled in Adam.
Then, there are those skills parents pass on to their children. Learning to never close a door since you may need to walk through it down the road, being quick to compliment others on their successes without envy, treating friends and family with integrity and loyalty, finding the positive whenever possible, accepting people as they are, and so much more.
He is open-minded about guidance, suggestions and directions but has a hard time biting his tongue under criticism (i.e. Top 36 response to Simon and he has yet to forgive Simon for his reaction to Ring of Fire). Personally I get a kick out of 'bitchy' Adam because it shows he is truly human and not, as many have offered, from Planet Fierce!
I remember watching his intro video during the auditions and hoping he could sing. Then I hoped he could string coherent sentences together. Then I hoped he was a nice guy and not a jerk. Then I hoped that success would not be his downfall (going to his head or stumbling down the path of drugs and booze as so many artists seem to do).
On all counts, Adam has exceeded my hopes and expectations. Yes, expectations, because I truly wanted to stan this artist and those were a must in my books. I sure wasn't disappointed!
So here I am four and half years later, scouring the net, twitter and IDF for every bit of news about him and having fallen totally in love with an incredible man with exceptional qualities and gifts!
Nature and nurturing collided to create this amazing artist who will change the world by being who he is with no apologies or regret, with a note or a word at a time.
