The more impressive pairing of this-season contestant with a prior-season non-winner on Thursday night was Ms. Miller singing “Titanium” with Adam Lambert, two shamelessly emoting powerhouses going for broke. This is a big deal. Jon Caramanica is not an Adam fan. If you do not remember him, he is the one who wrote this in his review of FYE: I am all amazement that he wrote something good about Adam. And IMO that red sentence is beyond good.  |

Enjoyed Adam (and Angie's) performance on Idol. Too often duets get treated like a competition (looking at you Jhud) rather than as a collaboration. This was a collaboration and the result was just lovely, restrained and beautiful. Kudos and great to see the recognition and kudos being thrown Adam's way. Being generous is such a rare thing these days it really does get noticed...

This picture says it all!!! Reminds me of the hug Adam received from his The Voice of China duet partner Zhang Wei after singing WWFM. (Couldn't find a picture for comparison - someone have it?) Dueting with Adam must be such a joy!! Angie was SOOOO happy. I didn't see this kind of joy from any of the other contestants over their duets!  ETA - Also, I don't think she hugged Jessie J this hard. JJ might be her personal idol, but I think that even Angie realized just how much more her duet with Adam was perfection. And given that she chose the song, and likely worked as true partners with Adam in developing their version, I imagine it was even that much more special to her. Her duet with JJ was more uptempo & lively, but it was pretty much the standard rendition of the song and given that JJ just flew in the night before, they didn't have much time to work on it together. And who knows if JJ would have been as open to a true collaboration as Adam was. I think Adam made Angie feel like a true artist and not just a contestant singing with a superstar.

Being generous is such a rare thing these days it really does get noticed... IKR? It's his generosity of spirit and 100% pure classiness that has just done me in tonight. I mean, my heart was just melting over and over, watching him on stage, watching him look at Angie and watching her looking back at him... the expressions on his face... his posture... his restrained movements... the smile that broke through for Angie almost before he'd finished that last note... and her joy and happiness when she threw her arms around him, just like Allison did at the end of Slow Ride four years ago. I know there are lots of purists here who aren't remotely interested in Adam doing duets, but I'm not one of them. There are qualities that come out in Adam in a duet situation that are just touchingly different than when he's up on stage solo. I can't even explain it, but it makes me seriously WEEPY. I'll leave it to aleks and momtomany to get all poetic and explain it. All I know is that Adam + duet = at least an entire box of kleenex.  |
