'American Idol' Season 12 Finale: Adam Lambert Tops 5 Best Moments

Stellar performances, laugh-out-loud skits and one priceless dig at "The Voice" were among the highlights of the 2013 closer.
Adam Lambert returned, Jennifer Lopez worked the wind machine, and Randy Jackson was honored with a farewell package featuring dogs, not dawgs. With season 12 officially in the history books, American Idol pulled out all the stops to make the 2013 finale memorable.
To that end, there was a little for everybody. For the AARP crowd, Frankie Valli and Aretha Franklin represented. For the younger set, Psy, Pitbull and The Band Perry. Then there were the judges -- Jackson strapped on the bass guitar twice for numbers backing Mariah Carey and Kree Harrison; Keith Urban gave viewers their white guy-with-guitar moment, and Carey looked stunning in a white gown.

1) Adam Lambert’s return to the stage to duet with Angie Miller on Sia’s “Titanium” was nothing short of perfection! Clearly, fans of the show miss seeing Lambert on the Idol stage -- perhaps he can return next year as a judge? "If they called me, I'd say, 'Where do I sign?'" he told reporters after the show. The moment was further amplified by the appearance of Miller’s personal Idol, Jessie J, and an invitation for the third place winner to join the singer in the UK. Angie Miller might have come in in third place during the show but she got winner level duets for her American Idol finale performances tonight (May 16).
Angie started out her two performances on the live finale results show with a beautiful duet featuring American Idol season 8 breakout star Adam Lambert. The two performed a simply gorgeous, piano-driven version of David Guetta and Sia‘s “Titanium.” Adam sweetly sang along with Angie, making sure not to overpower her and let her shine. Their harmonies? To die for!
After her stunning duet with Adam, Angie got the chance to perform with her personal idol Jessie J. The two gave a super cute performance of Jessie’s “Domino.” Since Angie had to forego performing her new single “You Set Me Free” to perform with Jessie, the British pop star invited Angie to sing the song at one of her shows in the UK. Angie accepted the offer of course.

As usual, the final “Idol” episode of the season was a night of random pairings and guest stars, the bells and whistles that remind the audience how dull all the other results shows were in comparison. Some of the matchups worked (Angie Miller and Adam Lambert singing “Titanium”). Some of them didn’t (Angie and Jessie J). The boys got to sing live with Frankie Valli. The girls got Aretha Franklin as their singing partner, but only via satellite hookup from New York. Janelle Arthur got to sing with The Band Perry, and Amber Holcomb with Emeli Sande.

Adam on Idol: I have a confession

Adam was given many gifts and he clearly worked hard to sing and perform at levels few even dream of – and even fewer achieve. Most people recognize that Adam can sing, but last night Idol viewers got to see a different side of Adam – the gracious partner. What millions of people got to see last night for the first time was just a glimpse of how many gifts Adam gives.
I watched Adam’s duet with Angie in total amazement. He is such an amazingly responsive partner. Watching, listening, carefully adjusting his performance to her every move and note. It was the vocal version of watching Fred Astaire dance with his partner.
And the thought that ran through my head, ever so briefly, “Oh what must it be like to get to sing with Adam? What would I give to have that opportunity for only a moment?” I set it aside and watched the performance.
A few minutes later, the thought snuck back in. This time, I just let is in. The Adam part of the Idol Finale was over. The show had moved into the lame judges skit part. Dream on. Dream on.
Somehow I think I would be able to sing that much better being vocally guided by Adam. To find some kind of vocal perfection that I never was able to achieve on my own. And so, for one moment, I was jealous of a 19 year old girl who came in third on a reality TV show.
“Oh what must it be like to get to sing with Adam? What would I give to have that opportunity for only a moment?”
Now the rational side of me recognizes that even a few years ago when I was young and believed I could really sing, that I was never a good enough vocalist to stand on a stage with Adam and do anything more that perhaps have a discussion about a promotional plan for the concert or some radio fan contest winners that he needed to meet or some other promo matter. But that devil part of me was just going there and creating my own little fairytale movie of Adam and Me on stage, singing, and the entire audience is awe.
I kicked myself out of the little dream. OK back to the real world but it was fun for a few minutes to dream I could soar in the clouds and be surrounded by that voice.

The O Music Awards nominees have just been announced, and it is a fantastic day to be Frank Ocean, Beck or a fan of Adam Lambert. But when is it ever not a fantastic day to be a Glambert, friends?
The Glamberts have landed a nom in the Fan Army FTW category at this year’s awards, but it is a tough and treacherous road that lies ahead if they want to claim the title, with other nominees including those pesky Beliebers, soulful Lovatics and sassy Selenators, as well as Aliens, fans of the group Tokio Hotel.
