I think the lack of a resounding hit single out of the Trespassing album , is not due to Adam being gay, or his being from AI, or his being male and from AI.
I think , the singles that were chosen did not catch the public’s interest in the way that Gotye’s “
Somebody that I used to Know “ in 2012 , or Adele’s "
Rolling in the Deep " in 2011, captivated the public.
I think success is still about the music.
Adam’s creativity is like an iceberg. We are still seeing the tip , and we are yet to be shattered by its full strength.
I trust that Adam’s 3rd album will unleash that distinct music that is within him.
I trust, and I wait.
I agree it is about the music for the most part.
Adam is not an issue for radio: WWFM was played by literally thousands of radio stations and is still getting airplay.
The Idol association is not an issue: Not only did Adam get airplay but Phillip Phillips proved that even rock and AAA stations will play music by an Idol alum.

Every year there are many, many songs released that seem like they should be hits that do not become hits.
In 2000, fans could "blame" the radio establishment. But in 2013 with YouTube and streaming media, hits can now become popular because people like them. And an indie song, a true sleeper hit like "Thrift Shop" can be #1.
Here is the current Top 10 --
1. (1) Macklemore & Ryan Lewis: 'Can't Hold Us'
2. (2) Pink ft. Nate Ruess: 'Just Give Me A Reason'
3. (3) Justin Timberlake: 'Mirrors'
4. (10) Daft Punk ft Pharrell & Nile Rodgers: 'Get Lucky'
5. (6) Florida Georgia Line ft. Nelly: 'Cruise'
6. (7) Selena Gomez: 'Come & Get It'
7. (9) Icona Pop ft. Charli XCX: 'I Love It'
8. (5) Rihanna: 'Stay'
9. (8) Imagine Dragons: 'Radioactive'
10. (4) Bruno Mars: 'When I Was Your Man'
5 are from artists that are often on the Top 40, but the others are not. And JMHO there are some very good songs on that list. But I really like 7 of 10 of these songs. And that is a very high percentage.
And as Macklemore rapped in "Can't Hold Us" -- "Labels out here/ Nah they can't tell me nothing/ We give that to the people/ Spread it across the country."
