Since AI judging is on our collective minds, here's an idea (not original). I was just glancing at iTunes Store where The Voice has a banner. I believe the iTunes purchases count towards the voting. I don't know if it has for AI. But . . . that made me think about how some of the best people with the most hit potential get voted off. Someone here posted an article about the dilemma The Voice is facing with a voting audience that likes old music styles and country. However, there is at least one show that pretty much always gets it right (opinions may vary, of course). It is Dancing with the Stars. The judges score the dancers and then audience voting is added to it. This makes for some interest because there is always one star who stays on the show longer than they should, but in the end the best make it to the end. Granted, their are specific details of dance that are rated, but their is a lot of room for different styles and preferences. If AI judges who have biz knowledge, current tastes, etc., could rate the singers, that might help skew the voting to something less "safe" or less "country". I'd be interested in really having their opinions count right to the end. I think you are really on to something there Holst....I wonder if any of the PTB have thought of that as an option. If you deleted the option of power text voting, and/or simply made the judges vote worth enough to counter that voting [and making judges votes worth a percentage [50%] rather than a number takes care of that....is a great idea. Judges would be under a lot of pressure to 'get it right' and it would not hurt them to use a modified formula similar to what I used to use when grading students giving speeches. Translated that could look like, for example, on a possible total of 10, that 2.5 points go to originality/interpretation; 2.5 go to performance; 4 go to technical skill/pitch/vocals in general; and 1 last judicial point for level of difficulty, or uniqueness.... Just a thought...If you use a template like this that breaks things down simplistically, it would be easier for the judges to comment and easier for the public to understand. They use systems like this for beauty competitions [to validate their choices for the most part...but isn't that what we are talking of here?] and they post their choices during the competitions...I think this would be a great way to set a new standard for shows...just as they set the original standards for this kind of competition. Glad you like the concept. I'd love to see what Adam would do with that. He has such eclectic taste and would be open to a lot of styles of performers. Celebrity judges would have to actually put their opinions on the line and not just sit there at the table to promote themselves. |

I have been voting a lot on the Wendy Williams Poll because the results are going to be announced on her show. TV air time for a poll about which alum would make best judge. Of course JHud and Kelly's fans are not joining the fray, don't need too. We had a nice big lead, but Claymates have started to move up fast. This has been a low voting poll with only about 28,000 votes, which I don't understand as I have seen us log log in 200,000 or more for a poll with no pay off at all. Low voting polls can change fast. Remember how quickly Claymates got a huge lead on us on that Guardian Poll? We don't want to hear Clay's name read as the best new judge.
