I am ok if we don't get a good video of this one and I see why Adam didn't make a pre announcement to his fans. Whenever Adam has been asked how he survived his youth and not fitting in, he sites theater. He has called it his community. This is where he spent his adult life prior to Idol and this is where his friends came from and still are. He spent the past week emersed in the shows as an audience member, visiting colleagues backstage and friends after. It must have felt so good to be invited on stage to make something powerful, bigger than himself. He wasn't there as an Idol "winner", or as an international superstar, he was there as a fellow theater kid who could sing his face off for the house. We will hear him sing the national anthem again some day. I am just glad last night he was able to be one with his community again.

The SSB is such a beautiful song. I’m not even American and I get chills whenever I hear it. So it’s truly wonderful that we get to hear Adam sing (bits of) it. (Very carefully worded phrase; I haven’t been able to watch any vids yet, myself!!) I love that he was just a surprise guest at this event. It seems to me that he was just out attending shows this week and hanging with friends and this happened. He’s so connected! He’s an honorary member of the Broadway community. I honestly don’t think this was a pre-planned appearance, it was a very last minute decision. and I love that. And I love that they didn’t make it all about him (as I saw some tweets wondering why his appearance wasn’t promoted). IMO this was perfect. Just a great surprise for the audience. (ETA: Or what Kay just posted!) :D Umm, just a small point though. I read that this didn’t actually take place on Broadway. Perhaps someone can confirm the address of the theatre? And one small disclaimer. I love it when Adam flexes his broadway muscles with little guest appearances like this…BUT I am not a broadwaybert. I am not particularly interested in seeing Adam star in a broadway show. Not now. Maybe in another 3 or 5 years. To each their own.
