First of all I feel I should eat a little crow, because I was unsure about the P!nk comparisons, but my uncertainty was a largely ignorant one (as I admitted), and one that was partly just a shorthand for my uncertainties about WWFM specifically (and maybe a couple other songs). SO I look forward to looking into all of you P!nk fans' recommendations--I love the fun of Bad Influence, for example, as well as others of her songs. I fully recognize what rabbitrabbit said--that it is unfair to judge someone just based on their radio hits. (After all, I would have a very different opinion of Adam based just on WWFM.) I'm in the P!nk camp. I've been noticing for about a year that I never get sick of her songs, like I never get sick of Adam's ... Pink has a rawness, a tough vulnerability and humanity. I love Pink too and I think that Susie has described her appeal very well, plus based on many of her videos she appears to have a good sense of humor. I think however, that if Adam takes this route it will become too overwrought which is why I cringe a little when he says he is going down the path of WWFM. Adam is not raw, he is sophisticated. Adam is not (currrently) vulnerable or angsty, he is in control. Yes, he has abundant humor and humanity and he should explore those attributes but most of all Adam is sexy and moves like a tiger and roars like a lion. So that is my vote for his next album: - Sophisticated
- Sexy
- Dancey
- In charge
He can throw in a couple of acoustic, sit on a stool kind of songs, because they show his legs off but he better get that ass moving. LOL Linda--it will come as absolutely no surprise to you that I totally agree with all this . I think you put it much better than I tried to, earlier. Overwrought is a good word. Adam does angsty well, most notably, perhaps, on his idol performance of Mad World. (I personally liked it a little less on the angstier album numbers like Sleepwalker and Can't Let You Go, but that is of course entirely a question of taste.) Where was I--he does angsty well. But I like how you pointed out that that doesn't suit him perfectly. He himself isn't angsty (though we all have our moments)--he's positive, and most of all, he's the word you used: In Control. I have found that control so very very hot from the very start. He is not the tortured, anguished artist, despite having rock elements that have in the past lent themselves to this kind of art. It makes me think of my favorite bit from that very excellent Juneau and Xena interview with Wesley Strick. Strick points out that fans affection for Adam has something in it of the search for eternal youth and energy, but that while rock music has always been about the tension between mortality and love/sex, Adam's performing isn't about that tension. Strick's words: "with Adam you don't feel that tension so much--it seems more celebratory--not to say it isn't edgy, but there's something about his music and his presentation that's just purely delightful. He does it unselfconsciously--it seems, you know, I said to Marla as we were watching that he's a natural, by which I don't mean just that he's a natural performer, but I think that's what I was sensing--that he instinctively pulls all those thematic threads and emotions together without having to work it. So there's something relaxing about watching him, you know, normally when you watch a performer on stage whose ambitious in trying to embody different tensions--artistic tensions--Adam seems to just let it flow through in a way that makes you feel good, you know, and part of a communal experience...its sort of uncomplicated, you know, there's a lot going on but its not complicated, so you don't--there's nothing neurotic about his performance, and that's refreshing." www.youtube.com/watch?v=V89ITs9FfcQTHIS. I agree with this analysis so much. What I find so refreshing about his performances is that lack of, I dunno, agitation that is so big a part of so many rockier performances (though not P!nk's, certainly--she's very much in control, live), especially alt-rock. When Adam talks about exploring more vulnerable themes, I think I just don't want him to lose this special, delightful, uncomplicated quality that Strick describes. And that isn't a slam of course--its not dumb music, its not simple, its just comfortable in itself. Even BO, which is explicitly about vulnerability and lack of perfection, has a soothing naturalness to it that is the opposite of angsty rock. That's very Adam. But again, I have every faith in him to make something full of awesome. I'm sure I will find it delightful no matter what.

I am so excited about this performance! I just saw it this morning, was it posted yesterday? Would love to read everyone's comments on it. This was a huge production number , what show is this? The audience loved it, and IMO it was way more racey and homoerotic than Adam's choreography on Fever and also on AMA's. Main thing, the audience went BSC on this. Love, Love, Love it! Course, the guy singing didn't know all the words, and his voice couldn't touch Adam's with a 10 foot pole. Hope Adam checked it out, and I wonder if he is thinking, Gosh, wish I could get away with this in US. I'm thinking, WOW, wish Adam would do this choreography, can you even imagine how HOT it would be? I am late here, so I don´t know if someone has replied to you. This program is OT (Operación Triunfo) a program in Spain, similar to American Idol. I am very excited. It is not usual that the contestants know enough English to sing songs in English and when they do it is usually a complete mess. According to these standards, Alex interpretation was more than good. I cannot imagine this choreography being used in American Idol : Alex danced with the choregrapher of the program (Marco Da Silva) and it produced a total euphoria in the audience. So the main dance guy that he straddled was the choregrapher? Does this show have judges? Thanks for your insight.

I love Adam news, but I am always going to want to know who he is dating or fooling around with, or party he's attending. Can't help it. I like People magazine too. ...but that's news too I want to know that as well. the problem with the list is that the same person that does shipping might post news... so I have no idea how to separate those... Well, that is a tough one. And everyone has to go with their comfort level. Most people have shallow-end/deep-end personalities like they do here. You can have intense, philosophical discussions, or you can play a goofy game of Adam/Adam shipping, which was of course a complete joke. It was kind of fascinating to think of all his many incarnations and how funny it would be if they were actually different people who could date. I originally followed someone who was great with news, but she spammed almost relentlessly. I really don't follow any hardcore shippers, many joke, but they're not serious. I usually unfollow angsters because I have a tendency to internalize other people's emotions and they stress me out. Everyone has a different comfort level. The new Tweet Deck seems to have all kinds of bells and whistles; maybe you can look into that. I would say hang with it for awhile, then try to figure out who you're enjoying and who is bugging you. You may find you get more out of it then just news or maybe you'll decide it's not your thing. Sometimes it takes a little while to figure out what's working for you.

I think the interview with Perez is insightful to why Adam is doing the new glamlite look. I don't think it's to be more main stream or accepted. He said after idol, tour, and everything that happened he was over compensating thinking he had to have a big concept etc. I think he is now more confident that he has fans because of his vocals. Remember he tried to get into the business for many years. I think he felt pressure that now he had his chance he better make it big and make a lasting impression. I think now he wants to be known primarily as a respected singer and not the glam gay guy from idol. The singer who loves camp is still there but I think he wants to be known for vocals first. I can't wait to see what he does on album 2.

I need to play with Twitterdeck a bit... I have it but so far - the regular twitter was easier for me... I also don't want to unfollow people, as it seems to me that it might upset them...we'll see... the main thing is to have some news coming

I didn't want to imply that Adam was conforming, I totally don't think that is what he is doing, but I do not discount business strategy adam because he has shown time and time again that he knows what works in his industry.
