Wow he walked away! I really respect that decision. Do you think he has another label lined up? OK, just checking back and see this... WHAT!!!! Have to read the thread... Mys*&@^#r and others, didn't you call the Shirley article the other day perhaps a heads-up to parting of the ways with RCA!!! WOW, crystal ball if what Stalla says here is what I think it is. O.M.G. Stunned. Worried. Scared. Proud. Excited. WTF? LOVE the timing. RCA gives Adam an ultimatum, expecting him to timidly comply. Adam politely, respectfully, calmly says, "Thanks, but, no thanks." The ties are cut. It is official. RCA "dumps" him. Then, he announces to the world that he is going on Glee and gets MASSIVE positive, world-wide publicity. Take that, RCA!!! Having any second thoughts?
It reminds me of what Adam said in an interview last year when asked what is the best thing one can do for themselves. He responded, "cut the ties" if something is toxic, someone is trying to make you do something that you know is wrong. "Say 'peace out' and walk away." Yup. Good for you, Adam.

According to my Wiki search there are only 3 major labels:
Major labels since 2012 (Big Three)
Universal Music Group (EMI recorded music division absorbed into UMG)
Sony Music Entertainment (EMI Music Publishing absorbed into Sony/ATV Music Publishing)
Warner Music Group
Not a lot to choose from. I wonder which would be the best for Adam? I guess these are divided into divisions like RCA is under Sony.

Well can I just put up a prayer for a deal with UMG. What is UMG? Universal Music Group. Barry Weiss, who used to be with RCA and is a huge Adam fan, is now president of two of UMG's divisions. I just looked at the website, and it looks like Adam would feel right at home at Republic Records (home of Nicki Minaj, Florence & the Machine, Neon Trees, Pearl Jam and others). |

I've written before about "super fans." With 10,000 super fans who support him financially by buying new products and telling others about him, a creative person can have quite a nice life. Adam has way more than 10,000. Glee will get him even MORE. He can do a LOT with the amount of money he can raise with Kickstarter, etc. He is on the leading edge of this revolution in the way that things are done in the creative arts business. Here we go!!!!!!!!

But what about that other label that seems to know how to push to get their artists into rotation on the radio. We were all lamenting that he was not with them. I forget the name. From the man himself. I have felt that RCA sabotaged Trespassing from the get-go. Getting DMG for management was such a wise move. They've done more to promote Adam than 19 or RCA ever did. Now the ball is rolling... Adam has networked, has friends all over the industry and will not lack for projects. I'm not worried about him in the least. |
