Universal Music Group. Barry Weiss, who used to be with RCA and is a huge Adam fan, is now president of two of UMG's divisions. I just looked at the website, and it looks like Adam would feel right at home at Republic Records (home of Nicki Minaj, Florence & the Machine, Neon Trees, Pearl Jam and others). But what about that other label that seems to know how to push to get their artists into rotation on the radio. We were all lamenting that he was not with them. I forget the name. Oh Adam Haven't gotten to bed for five nights now! Dead tired but so fascinated! Interscope?

I'M SO FREAKING PROUD OF HIM!!!!! SO PROUD!!!!!! His artistic integrity and the way he keeps being true to his vision and to himself is one of the reasons why I love him and admire him so much. I adore him, okay? I adore him!!!! IMO, this is a huge step, and the best he could have made. A cover album???? Come on!!! WTF, RCA???? Well, they were so stupid that they lost him. And I'm PRETTY SURE that he'll become huge real soon. Mark my words, guys, this is a great thing and the best thing he could have done for his career. ILHSFM...

I'm confused. Can he just walk away? And who does Shoshanna work for? I think Shoshanna used to work for Sony at another PR company she used to work for. Then she created another PR firm and she work directly with the artist, Adam, not the label or Sony/RCA

I just love how Adam gets the word out himself, so there can be no confusion. I'm sure the timing was orchestrated. Adam the master strategist-- he is so in-tune with himself and his fans. As rihannasu says, times are a changing. He left Wicked's paycheck for Idol, so this decision is in tune (sorry about the pun) with his risk-taking. Also I'm sure he has savvy lawyers.

I hope that Adam is seeing that things are moving in a positive direction. If so, I am a hoping that he can "walk away" from Melvin. I have a creative difference issue with Melvin.

Wow and good for you Adam following what you know is right for you. Confused though, doesn't he have a contract for 5-7 albums? Or does this mean that both parties parted???? The contact is for options on 5 contracts -- RCA can decide if they want to exercise each option or not. And they can put terms on each option. And the record label has the right to decide is work is commercially acceptable even after exercising an option. Interesting that RCA Promo tweeted the GLEE story yesterday.

OH NO THEY DIDN'T @ohnotheydidnt Adam Lambert Says No to RCA Deal, Walks Away Over Creative Differences goo.gl/fb/Kzcii #americanidolfox Monday's news -- as reported by The Hollywood Reporter -- that American Idol season eight runner-up Adam Lambert was being asked by his label, RCA Records, to consider recording an all covers album elicited an impassioned response from the legions of Glamberts worldwide. And it wasn't a positive one. In what was a loud and fairly unanimous outcry, the rocker's fans took to social media, this site and popular American Idol debate destination MJs Big Blog to voice their distaste for the idea. The consensus for the most part being: that Lambert is an artist with his own musical vision who should be allowed to explore it to the fullest. Now, THR can report, Lambert will be doing just that. The singer is walking away from his RCA contract after two full length albums, 2012's Trespassing and 2009's For Your Entertainment, along with several EPs and a live collection -- all issued by the Sony Music label. Lambert revealed the news in a letter to THR, which follows in its entirety below. In it, Lambert notes "the oft-cited 'creative differences'" as they related to his next project, stating: "my heart is simply not in doing a covers album." To the contrary, Lambert adds that he's "deep into writing new material with some very talented colleagues," which will surely delight his audience of diehards. The "evolution" continues, he says. "This music is where my heart is." But it won't be at RCA, where a typical American Idol recording contract stipulates that the artist and the label be on the same page creatively.
