For those people (not on this site) who are trying to spin this announcement toward 'dumped', I have only one thing to say ...
GLEE
Your argument is invalid.

Maybe Adam was just keeping Melvin so he could look more fierce and now that Glee is lined up, RCA is no longer his label and he is on to bigger and better things, he'll shave if we ask real nice. Sorry, just a bit of levity. I'm so excited for him and his new adventure. RCA was there when he needed them, let him do 2 great albums, executive produce one, but they dropped the ball on what songs from the fabulous TRESPASSING to release. All forgivable, but the 80s covers, when Adam did not want to be forced into that box, definitely demanded a parting of the ways. He really does have balls of steel. A role model for the the strong hearted. True. Except I am not forgiving them for the TP singles and the lack of promo. Neither do I! I always felt very strongly about RCA, but never said anything cause I wanted to keep the peace. But now that they're gone, let me say they received the PERFECT product in Trespassing: 1. Adam gave them a superb pop album, complete with radio-ready hits. 2. The fans gave them #1 album. 3. The Village Voice gave them extra publicity for discovering it was the first #1 album by an openly gay artist, And STILL they managed to muck it up! Now that takes a special kind of stupidity. And now, because of their stupidity, the world will never hear Cuckoo. And Adam will never make his dream music video for Cuckoo. Not even mentioning the other songs. So good riddance RCA, buh-bye, don't let the door hit you!

Yes, Interscope. Why is UMG a better choice than Interscope? They seem so aggressive and effective. Of course I know from nothing but I remember the list going on and on about how they wished he was signed with Interscope. Interscope is part of the UMG group. I don't want Adam under Jimmy Lovine though. He's so opinionated and often wrong. Jimmy Lovine, EEK... ick... just say NO... Please!!!

OK Here is something else I am tripping out on. I now am thinking about that fierce SSB sung in NY in the middle of all this. He was so empathic, so "just listen to this bitches", I wonder if this was as much his anthem. He was (subconsciously) singing about his own declaration of independence. WAAAAY past my bedtime. I am delusional. So happy to know in advance you all understand the nature of this particular obsession.

I have no doubt AFL already has another label in his pocket. The man has admitted to also being a businessman. And he is uber smart. Still, I would have been tickled to see how much we could have raised for a kickstarter.

I'm more of the belief that this parting of the ways has been discussed and negotiated and even finalized before the Shirley article on the 80s cover album. Things just don't move that fast in business. Adam would have to make the decision in collaboration with his management which would include discussion on how to release the info, when, with what spin, and to whom. Adam would almost certainly run the letter past his management, if for nothing more than spell check! I also think that Adam would not make this decision based on the fan response to the cover concept. Yes, he cares very much what his fans think. But, ultimately, it is about his artistic vision and what kind of music he wants to make. It is possible that the decision had been made but they decided to go public with it now rather than later after seeing the fan reaction and feeling they needed to respond to it. Who knows. Good points Cassie. Do you think Adam walked without knowing there was another label waiting for him? Do you think that RCA did not know about Glee? I am really curious about these two questions. Me, too. I suspect that RCA, when the decision was made to part ways, did not know about Glee. Not that they would have decided differently. But I just don't think they would have wanted to time the release of the dissolution of the partnership with the Glee announcement. Not good marketing. Kinda makes them look foolish and short sighted. Well, they are. I also think that part of the negotiations that went on between Adam and RCA included HOW they would all handle the parting of the ways. Who would announce it, how it would be framed so that everyone looked as good as possible. They may have even been given the Adam letter to preview. It would be a courtesy. As to whether Adam already has a new label lined up, according to myS*&@^#r, yes, he does. If it is not a done deal, certainly there have been talks in process. Adam is a businessman. With something this important, I am confident there was lots going on behind the scenes for a while. Ducks being lined up. Plans being made. Shoshanna's comments and plans would seem to support that as well. Also, if Adam was agonizing about whether to leave RCA for any length of time, he is certainly a VERY good actor, as many have commented on how happy and content he has seemed recently. I tend to believe that it was not just the Glee gig, but also him being relieved to have made the decision to walk away, and happy to finally have freedom to seriously work on his new project, his new music. To be able to move forward, full speed ahead. IMO.
