Last night Adam played the California Mid-State Fair which runs from July 17 through July 28. It is a typical regional state fair where the big attractions are various kinds of fried and sweet food, a wide range of ride including a large rollercoaster, animal shows/competitions, and entertainment – concerts, dancers, barn dances, cutting horse show, rodeo, livestock auctions, steer roping, ag shows…..
The California Mid-State Fair also includes the 11th Annual Central Coast Wine Competition which answers the question, “who’s got the best wine on the central coast?” The competition features over 600 types of wines from more than 150 wineries, all in competition for the prestigious “Best Of” title. All Gold Medal winning wines will be showcased at five fairs... the California Mid-State Fair, the Monterey County Fair, the San Benito County Fair, the Santa Barbara County Fair, and the Ventura County Fair. This is one of the most important wine competitions in the US.
In spite of the wine, I am not sure anyone knew what to expect from this concert.
The Venue
The fair’s main stage, the Chumash Grandstand Arena accomodates a little more than 14,000 people. It is a rodeo arena – with a dirt “floor” and was not designed for concerts. They fill the field with folding chairs for concerts – and the center section is OK. But basically this is a dusty, hot (in summer), and pretty rough venue that is more suited to the upcoming Monster Truck Show than a concert.
Considering the somewhat remote location, late concert announcement (apparently a blackout because of the Del Mar concert) and the high interest in country music in this part of California, the venue was pretty full for Adam’s concert.

The Show
Allison Iraheta and her new band, Halo Circus, opened the show. Then after a long intermission, Adam took the stage.
We need to get full updates for this concert but even the live stream was amazing!! And the crowd was so loud and enthusiastic!!
But most amazing was that Adam seemed totally unleashed!!

“American Idol” standout Adam Lambert performed Friday night at the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles.
Known for his powerful voice, high-energy performances and theatrical style, Lambert found fame after becoming the runner-up on the eighth season of “American Idol” in 2009.
The Grammy Award nominee’s hit songs include “Better Than I Know Myself,” “If I Had You” and “Whataya Want From Me.”

A few interesting items
Adam sang acapella WWFM with the crowd and said, "Fans that have been with me since the beginning, our journey is just getting started. Many more concerts together."
Adam had one painted fingernail and thumb on his left hand. No explanation was provided.
Adam also wore a key that fans gave to him and said the he did not wear it very often. “It's precious."
This one made me happy….so different than Del Mar
