I had no idea the song was about date rape. Why is there no media discussion on that?
Double standards, all over the place.
We could write pages about that, just siting Adam's situation alone.

Took a second to see his hand in the mirror. Who is the woman? Wife, I hope.

Oh this is so funny. The writer of my newspaper entertainment section said today that "A photo of Will Smith's family watching Lady Gaga was falsely appropriated as an anti-Miley meme." He also mentioned that in 1984, the very first broadcast "featured Madonna writhing around the stage in a wedding dress singing about having sex." The Britney/Madonna kiss happened in 2003 and previous to that, Britney had danced suggestively with a python in a VMA performance. He also said "Somewhere MTV execs are cackling in delight." haha.

Not only have I heard Robin Thicke defend the lyrics of his song as being "empowering" to women, I heard his mom defend it that way (before the VMAs) on some entertainment show . . .

re: AMAs When Adam tripped I did not know if it was planned or not. When he kissed Tommy, I cheered like he'd made a touchdown. I thought then and still do that it was a kind of pop cultural "moment." I thought his performance was exciting and truly emotional and provocative (as in thought-provoking) unlike all the other numbers (Rihanna and her weird wheel thing, Gaga smashing bottles, pyrotechnics). I LIKED those other numbers, but they were just that whereas Adam . . . had a bit more to "say," I thought. I don't think Adam ever said he cried about the AMA thing. I think he said he cried over a MOVIE and that he needed a good cry. Adam was aggressive in the performance, which fit the lyrics. I don't think he is or should be a sweety-sweet cupcake ALL the time . . . I do not, evidently, have a super discerning ear because I did not think at the time that there was anything wrong with his singing. I remembered thinking the same. I LMAO and said "No he did not". I kind of knew than that Adam was here to stay. While some of his fans were angsting I was hoping he would shed some of his Idol fans. He did lose some but I don't think they would have stayed anyway moving forward in his career. The AMA performance is what helped him internationally. There are some Idol fans who think if it hadn't been for the AMA Adam would have been a bigger star but I disagree because it would not have changed the fact that he was still gay. I read now from Idol fans who say they voted for Kris because they didn't want the gay guy to win, so it's not too far fetch to believe that there were a lot of Idol casual fans who felt the same. The AMA performance will always be a part of Adam and I embrace it. One day when the music historians write about openly gay artists impact in the music business Adam will be trailblazer that help open the doors. There has been artists like Frank Ocean and straight white guys like Maklemore who some feel is getting all the kudos that Adam should have gotten but the historians always get it right in the end. Maklemore isn't the first rapper to support marriage equality but he is the first white one. If he was gay would radio be playing him? Frank Ocean's career has somewhat stalled now. Adam is the first openly gay artist to sign to a major label in the U.S. and the first to get a #1 billboard album. He has already made history and everyone else will come in second. Mark my words in 10,15yrs from now Adam will get all the accolades due to him. The media has been behind Adam from the start because they know they are watching a legend in the making. They have been around long enough to know that he has what it takes. I'm not worried.

Adam put the "double standard" in all our faces during his AMA performance. I think we needed that. I was just sick that he may have dumped his career. Frankly, I lost sleep over it. I was flabbergasted and then sooooo proud that he didn't apologize. He has made me see so many things from a different angle. If people would just watch and listen, they could learn a lot from him. I don't know where he gets his wisdom, maybe he is an old soul, but he has taken me down paths that I have never ventured. Also, I couldn't believe that he fell and I couldn't believe that he didn't sound like himself. He seemed so wired that night - even whizzing down the red carpet; running late.I'm getting anxious about it all over again just reading these posts!! Okay, I'm going to be bold (for me). I've always wondered if he was on something that night that amped everything up. I doubt it.. based on the interviews he held directly afterwards. I have seen what adrenalin can do, it can take over your body and your mind and take you places you never intended. Watched it happen. It did not go down as he wanted and he knew it and he could not stop it if he tried. It was going .

I see there is discussion about Adam and the AMA performance. People here mentioned how angry he seemed. The most shocking thing to me was seeing him give the audience the finger at the end of the performance. Didn't Adam say that his anger was directed at the editor of Out Magazine and the debacle that ensued after his interview with them? To this day I don't know what to think about his performance that night. I just think that because of Adam's huge talent he has had huge expectations put on him from the very beginning.... Maybe too many too soon. I have thought for years that Adam made enemies in high places because of that performance. Why did it take so long for WWFM to get lots of adds on the radio? In retrospect, maybe it was RCA rather than aftermath of the AMA. My friends think of Adam from that performance, and I can't tell you how many say to me, "He is weird." This hurts me that they have this view of him. Adam is hugely talented, charismatic, classy, and deserves maximum success. He is not perfect, of course, but I think he has navigated his path since then very well. Since he has left RCA and has signed on with DMG, things have been going so well for him. I'm hoping for the best for him!

RE: The AMA performance, I wasn't a huge Glambert at the time but I did think it would be career suicide for the US. I do think it raised some important conversations though which did contribute to me coming out around that time. "Angry Adam" freaked me out a bit too!! I had no idea the song was about date rape. Why is there no media discussion on that? Double standards, all over the place. We could write pages about that, just siting Adam's situation alone. I guess cause it's down to interpretation. Like I personally don't find it any more rapey than something like Shady. But on the flip side I hear old singles on the radio that are just revolting to me, like Young Girl by Gary Puckett
