I haven't weighed in on Miley yet. I've thought about what was so uncomfortable about it for me, and I've come up with this.
She wants to be seen as a grown woman, but so many things about the performance were childish--teddy bears, goofy one-piece costume at the beginning, sneakers, kicking her legs in the air like a child goofing around instead of a like a dancer, using the #1 finger in a way that I would expect to see from my 8th graders at school. There was nothing mature about it. Amateur. It all reeked of "a child trying to be grown up." For me it is sort of like when comedians (mostly male, I guess) use "potty" humor instead of something creative.
Regarding the bend-over in front of Mr. Thicke, icky. But . . . . some here have suggested that he was grinding into her. I didn't see that. When she bent over, he was already wiggling his leg to the beat of the song and continued that even after Miley jumped in front of him. Maybe other people saw that as grinding. I just saw him continuing to sing without paying much attention to her. Could be that that was an unplanned move on her part.
ETA: Also funny hair. I guess she did mean the whole thing to be goofy, but it just seemed off to me.

Regarding the VMA's the miley's performance - very good analysis - sorry if already posted - Susie Fierce SusieFierce 9m Live this!! Excellent analysis. huff.to/1cenqqt Full disclosure: I didn't watch the VMA Awards. I was busy baking vegan brownies and listening to Leonard Cohen that night. Not because I'm impervious to pop culture silliness (because I'm really not), but I simply wasn't in the mood for over-the-top, over-hyped award shows that evening. I live on Twitter and Facebook, so I immediately heard about it, of course. I heard about it that night, the next morning, and well into the following evening. For a world so often accused of having a short attention span, we sure know how to dwell on the inconsequential and unimportant. more . . . Excellent read...thanks 4EverAdam! I would have liked to have seen such writing after the AMA's for Adam.

Absolutely no reason for this - except I love it - Adam's voice and the reaction of an audience of his peers.

Adam put the "double standard" in all our faces during his AMA performance. I think we needed that. I was just sick that he may have dumped his career. Frankly, I lost sleep over it. I was flabbergasted and then sooooo proud that he didn't apologize. He has made me see so many things from a different angle. If people would just watch and listen, they could learn a lot from him. I don't know where he gets his wisdom, maybe he is an old soul, but he has taken me down paths that I have never ventured. Also, I couldn't believe that he fell and I couldn't believe that he didn't sound like himself. He seemed so wired that night - even whizzing down the red carpet; running late.I'm getting anxious about it all over again just reading these posts!! Okay, I'm going to be bold (for me). I've always wondered if he was on something that night that amped everything up. My own personal take so grain of salt: I don't think he was "high" as in drugs... Maybe red bull or something, but don't think anything mind altering. He did say, and I do agree, he was turned on. Can't remember his exact words. But judging by the GB when he came through the door... I would say he was very turned on. He said the acts that came before him really... and wanted to amp it up... paraphrasing here... So I think it was a combination of sexual tension/excitement, performance excitement, being pissed off, maybe knowing his vocals were off, falling, nerves and everything else that takes over ones head in that type of moment.

Took a second to see his hand in the mirror. Who is the woman? Wife, I hope. Well, well, the double standard is alive and well. Unfortunate mirror there, Robin..feel for his wife. Maybe 'feel' isn't the right word, but to me, he is the scumbag of the night. Taking no responsibility for that performance. That pic is going to come back and bite..why do I feel good about this? I didn't even watch the show, but to see Miley crucified for bad choreo if nothing else and this gander waddling off into the sunset is so disgusting. Koochy-koo... Papers will be served for breakfast, Robin, dahlink.. ETA: I did watch the vid.

I have no doubt that the AMA producers wanted a controversial performance from Adam. After 52 Idol concerts where the audiences on both coasts and everywhere in between madly cheered his sexy, kinda dirty antics on stage, I think Adam overestimated the appeal of that kind of performance for the TV audience. I don't think there was anyone advising Adam that had his best interests at heart. (Thinking of Lee and Scarlett telling an overly enthusiastic Adam that, no, he can't have flames coming out of his fucking head.) At this point, I'd like to add that ABC totally threw Adam under the bus. They got everybody talking about the AMAs and they got Adam to take the blame for the criticism. Months went by before I watched ABC.

Totally agree with this, 4Msrmym. Also agree with Q3 that those who don't like Adam from AMA performance probably wanted the Adam that sang "Tracks of My Tears." Adam is not the normal American Idol, that's for sure. And I for one, am glad about that. I am proud to be an Adam fan.
