Adam Lambert Defends Miley Cyrus, but Parents Group Says 'Heads Should Roll' at MTV

Miley Cyrus has at least one supporter this week, and he's no stranger to controversy himself.

"Listen if it wasn't ur cup of tea – all good but why is everyone spazzing? Hey – she's doin something right. We all talkin," Adam Lambert wrote Monday on Twitter.

He stopped short, though, of saying he actually enjoyed the 20-year-old pop star's twerking routine with Robin Thicke.

"Hold up!" the former American Idol runner-up later wrote. "I didn't actually state whether or not I liked @mileycyrus performance. I merely said she was having fun and to cut her some slack."

Lambert has been there himself, having been criticized for his own racy performance at the 2009 American Music Awards – telling PEOPLE later that he "just got caught up in the moment."

One group that isn't cutting MTV any slack is the Parents Television Council, which issued a statement condemning the network for the show's overall racy content.

"MTV continues to sexually exploit young women by promoting acts that incorporate 'twerking' in a nude-colored bikini. How is this image of former child star Miley Cyrus appropriate for 14-year-olds?" the statement said in part.

The PTC did not criticize Cyrus herself, but advisory board member Paul Porter said "heads should roll at MTV" because of her routine.

The PTC's criticism is particularly notable because Cyrus's father, Billy Ray Cyrus, is also an advisory board member for the group.

"This much is absolutely clear," the PTC said. "MTV marketed adults-only material to children while falsely manipulating the content rating to make parents think the content was safe for their children."

Adam Lambert, the former “American Idol” runner-up, is apparently defending Miley Cyrus’s controversial twerking at the MTV Video Music Awards performance.

Lambert once found himself at the center of a firestorm following his 2009 American Music Awards performance where he kissed a man and simulated oral sex.

A note was posted on his Twitter account reading “@mileycyrus looked like she was having a ton of fun. Y’all need to relax and lighten up. It was meant to be funny. Leave Miley alone!”

A follow-up note read “And listen if it wasn’t ur cup of tea— all good but why is everyone spazzing? Hey – she’s doin something right. We all talkin.”

Lambert wasn’t done yet. “Hold up! I didn’t actually state whether or not I liked @mileycyrus performance. I merely said she was having fun and to cut her some slack.”

Another tweet concluded “Whew folks are all heated bout this. Hilarious. I can’t help it that I’m a contrarian — just another healthy debate.” A representative for Lambert didn’t return a request for comment.

Miley Cyrus' VMAs performance defended by Adam Lambert: 'Cut Her Some Slack'

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Don't worry, Miley Cyrus: the media might be dragging you over the coals for your raunchy MTV Video Music Awards performance on Sunday, but you have a friend in Adam Lambert.

The "American Idol" favorite provided what was seemingly the lone pro-Miley voice on the Internet, jumping into white-knight mode and declaring via his Twitter account, "Cut her some slack."

Lambert's defense of Cyrus' performance - which included liberal amount of twerking and a bawdy display featuring Robin Thicke, a foam finger, and Cyrus' wagging tongue - began with a tweet asking why everyone was "spazzing" about the segment.

He later clarified that he wasn't necessarily a fan of the performance - just that people should allow Miley to be Miley.

"Hold up! I didn't actually state whether or not I liked @mileycyrus performance. I merely said she was having fun and to cut her some slack," Lambert noted. "Whew folks are all heated bout this. Hilarious. I can't help it that I'm a contrarian - just another healthy debate."

"Whataya Want From Me" singer Lambert, of course, is no stranger to controversial performances himself - he raised eyebrows at the American Music Awards in 2009, when he kissed his male keyboard player.

While Lambert may be providing a sympathetic stance for Cyrus, the "Can't Be Tamed" singer has been catching heat from most other corners, including MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski - who's called for MTV executives to be fired over the incident - to Robin Thicke's mother, Gloria Loring, who criticized Cyrus as "misbegotten."

This picture of Katy Perry and Adam Lambert BFF-ing at Sunday's VMAs is just, like, TOO PERFECT! Seriously, our pupils can only handle so much beauty-per-pixel. Though watching our sixty-second VMA supercut video on repeat really does wonders with Video Music Award withdrawl, a worthy alternative cure might be staring at the photo up top, which Adam shared on his Instagram along with the caption, "Me and my grill @katyperry." (Wordplay FTW!)

I mean, well, we're trying to focus on it, but the shine from Katy's grill paired with the Artist To Watch presenter's gleaming smize may just make us go blind. We're gonna opt for closing our eyes and imagining what went down.

They probably complimented each other's incredible outfits, arranged brunch plans the next morning so they could rave over Katy's Turnt-Up "Roar" performance. And then, Katy asked Adam to do a PRISM collabo because, guys, GlammyKats need to be the next stan movement, amirite?? (Show those Glam-birds what's what.)
