Adam FANtasy Contest Entry.

He was born with a gift of laughter and a sense that the world was mad.

He felt as if he didn’t belong. Why did he feel so different from those around him? Although he laughed and engaged in the day to day tasks of growing up and trying to figure out “who am I and where am I going”; the burden of another calling kept raging in his head. I must share my gift of song and creativity with the universe. If I do not do this and find a way to be true and share my gift of voice and song, I will surely go mad. I must find a way to do this. If it means a long and perilous journey, I must follow my heart. His other worldly parents, burdened and saddened at his desire to leave his home world, agreed that it was the only way to save his life’s aura. His journey began.

The universe in it’s all knowing sense of what is right and hearing the pleas of this tormented soul, searched and found the perfect planet that would embrace this tortured soul. A blue colored marble of a planet in a far off galaxy. It was ripe for change and needed a voice to lead them back to the music that mattered. His spirit was whisked away and reborn in a place call Indianapolis. This is how the exodus from Planet Fierce began.

His spirit thrived in his new home planet. His love of song and performing was nourished by his earthling family. He found a home in a special place that was called “Zodiac” where he was encouraged to stretch his creativity. He found audiences that loved his performances and sought him out for new challenges. His journey to the fantasy land of the desert called “Burning Man” provided the vision that inspired his travel to a new place called San Francisco.

In San Francisco he was judged worthy by a panel of four judges who evaluated his ability to bring “entertainment” to the masses. He was told he would be expected to perform weekly and bring all of his skill and talent because he must defeat his challengers.

Each week he rose to the challenge. He brought “shock and awe” with his fire; thoughtfulness as he shared his “mad world”, told everyone he was “feelin good”, said there was a “whole lotta love” out there, and asked us to “take a slow ride” with him. He was embraced by the masses but there were still those who questioned him and those who plotted against him.

What started with “Mama” and ended with “We are the Champions” is a journey that needs its own telling. The intrigue and game playing is beyond retelling here. What is considered for our entertainment? Is there a place where we trespass into someone’s comfort zone? Who chooses what we hear over the radio waves? Who is a hit? Why is one song chosen over another?

What is known is that true talent will always win. It cannot be squashed. Needless to say, there are strange twists of fate in this place called earth. Sometimes our fear of what is different leads us away from what we should choose. He who does not win, does not always lose.   This is true.
