Claudia @glamfannation Elvis Duran just went NUTS for Lay Me Down on his morning show!! Played a bit of it and just gushed- yippee!!!!!!!! @adamlambert Wow! That's great/ surprising to hear!! I used to listen to Elvis every morning but stopped at the beginning of this year because I was fed up with waiting for him to start playing Trespassing. I would see him in the Daily News entertainment section, snuggling up to Adam at an event for a photo op. But play his music? Nope! Guess it was naive of me to expect him, as an out gay man who is also a major radio personality, to support Adam. So I changed the channel. But I am glad to hear he actually played part of LMD for his huge audience. Let's hope he is just as generous when A3 hits the market!!

[ This whole discussion (since MJs original article) has made it apparent to me and probably others, how different culturally the US really is, and I live here for 20 years now. My European brain just cannot understand the level of concern and worry that a drag role costs the average American. The extend to which Adam has to tip toe around anything remotely pushing either the androgyny or any role with female connotations. And we all know he itches to go there. There are just reflexes triggered in the average American, that I just don't have and I am pretty sure most of my European acquaintances don't have either. This board, who clearly has Adam's interests at heart, was in the majority expressing concern and the same was happening on AO and twitter. If this was planted to get a read on the fandom, then Adam got his answer. But I wonder how long it will take, before a culture can change and become at ease with something like this and also what parts of the cultural upbringing makes this be so different in America versus i.e. Europe. Just pondering such things, this morning. I don't really have answers right now, but I find the question intriguing. I wasn't here during this discussion so I was unaware that the majority here were expressing concern. My twitter was mixed - seemed there were just as many (including me) who had no concerns at all. I trust Adam to be the best judge of what role would be good for him. Has he ever been one to go the safe route? But it's a moot point now that it's been proven untrue. As for your question Craazyforadam about the difference between European & US attitudes about this sort of thing, I have no answer. But the US has always been more socially conservative than many other industrialized countries and I think it has to do (at least partly) with the predominance of religion here. Especially in certain areas of the country. I like the European attitude far better.

Why am I on this board so much this morning? Go away, me. Get some work done. LOL. My 2 cents on the "drag" reaction -- American vs. European. Very interesting question. I think in general Americans are more moralistic than Europeans. The difference in religiosity is well-known, but even among non-religious people, Americans tend to debate issues on moral/ethical terms. My thought is that gay rights activists have been very smart to focus on marriage rights. The more that people in America see gays as "people in love who want to be married," the more they have shifted to a support for gay rights that has been rather astonishing in its rapidity. Support and understanding for other things that smack more of sexual license will lag behind. The other thing is that I think a lot of Americans think of masculinity as something you earn, rather than as something you just have. They can't understand why you would willingly give up something that is so valuable and so hard to earn, ie, drag or a more fluid gender presentation. You can see this attitude among men and women and often in gays too as Adam himself has noted. That said -- it's easy for me to remember how popular the androgynous pop music acts were in the late 70s and early 80s. My perception is that AIDS slammed the door on that and we are still climbing out of that tragedy. Just speculating ... happy about everything that is happening for Adam and for us!! I love your speculation.. It just seems to fit..An aside, we are so puritanical in this country and of course all we think about is sex.Did I miss your birthday ,like a while ago.. If so Belated Happy Birthday.. I guess I was out to lunch or maybe I still am ..
