evergreen Avatar 27 minutes ago evergreen said: Q3 said: I am still listening to music -- and it is interesting when I listen to singers I love, they are less good than I remember.
SOMEBODY MESSED WITH MY STANDARDS FOR WHAT A GREAT SINGER SOUNDS LIKE.
This is so true for me, too. But thank you, Q3, for today's theme. For years I didn't have (or take) the time to listen to new or different music, and Adam and this site have been a revalation. I am listening to some who are new to me today because of this thread and those who are sharing their favorites.
I feel so lucky to be here... Read more: adamtopia.com/thread/1931/who-second-best-singer-world?page=4&scrollTo=440222#ixzz2gxg1Gaja^^^ so, so true for me also. I am enjoying discovering new people to listen to. It really brings home the fact of how subjective our individual experiences/reactions to music are.

Ah!!! I adore Buckley, Glampoon! I remember people comparing him to Adam:))) My favourite Jeff's song ( it's not his, it's a cover), and if Adam ever covers it, I will positively die with bliss: Mmmm good choice Good morning. I don't know if I'd say George Michael had the best voice after Adam but I think the power and the emotion he had in his voice really showed in this video. Yeah! I love George's voice. Doesn't do big high notes or anything but his tone and phrasing is just perfect mmmmmm. ----- This guy is my favourite rock singer ever, one of Ozzy Osbourne's replacements in Black Sabbath. Vox start around 0:43. The music is quite dark but his voice is just unfeasibly strong + immaculate. So good

From Q3's headlines on p. 1 There are many singers who could be on this top 10 list, but Lennon and Dylan? Really? John Lennon always seemed fine and had a bland vocal quality, but I wouldn't call him a great singer. And Bob Dylan? Each to his own. My nomination is known to much of Adam's fan base--Nikka Costa. I think she is a brilliant singer. Here is a live performance. This performance reminds me of Janis Joplin! Anyone else? I love it! I was wondering if anyone would say that. I held back because I'm not a Joplin fan. However, this morning on "CBS Sunday Morning" (tv show) they did a spot on Janis. When I was looking at Nikka YouTube's the similarity struck me for the first time, probably because it was fresh in my mind. Janis is too shouty for me.

I think Barbra Streisand is one of the best singers , I guess she wouldn't be part of a Rolling Stone list though..LOL As a kid, I used to listen to her a LOT. I would replay tracks in order to write down all the lyrics (if they weren't on the album cover). I must have driven my family nuts. Well, my parents bought the albums, but I'm the one who wore them out. I have always thought, don't laugh, that Adam has some Barbra and Judy Garland in him. They are both very dramatic (theatrical), big-voiced belters. Adam has a lot of that style. (This is not meant as a gay stereotype. I didn't even know that there is a notion that gay men love these two ladies before I started following Adam.)
