Glee: First look at Adam Lambert, Lea Michele
& co performing as a band for the first time
November 17th, 2013 by Nick Barnes
It isn’t every day you wake up to a picture in your feed that you’re happy to look at, but this morning was a little different…
Today, we have been given the first glimpse of Adam Lambert (Starchild), Lea Michele (Rachel), Chris Colfer (Kurt) and Naya Rivera (Santana) performing as a band during their debut gig.
We have been made aware that this particular scene will take place during the Thanksgiving night episode (not to be confused with the Thanksgiving-themed episode). Usually, episodes that air on Thanskgiving night don’t generally do too well but we’re wondering whether a big performance from Adam Lambert and Demi Lovato may change things?
Upon first glimpse, you may not spot Demi Lovato in the picture but she’s hiding away in the background with blue hair. Another thing you may notice about the picture is that the group are wearing some very bright coloured clothes, which seem bright enough to burn off your retinas. Adam Lambert doesn’t seem to be wearing the wacky outfits that were first teased when it was announced he would be joining the cast earlier this year.
One other interesting thing to note about the picture is that the group have attracted quite a big crowd – how? They’re a new band in the middle of New York City and to be fair, NYC is going to have plenty of bands in the same boat as them. Admittedly, they don’t all have Demi Lovato and Adam Lambert in them, but I’m going to skip past that point for the ‘realism’ case. What we would like to know is what type of songs the band will be singing. Glee is renowned for churning out some pretty amazing covers and there have been one or two originals stuck in here and there. However, it is not yet been confirmed whether the band will just sing covers or whether we may see some original material. I’m thinking the former option may be more realistic, but only time will tell.
Next Thursday sees the Thanksgiving-themed episode hit our screens and it’ll be a tribute to Billy Joel. The episode is primarily titled ‘Movin’ Out’ because both Blaine and Sam will make their way to New York City, which means some KLAINE air-time!! Blaine is scouting for colleges and Sam is trying to kick-start a modelling career. But, forget all that as TYRA BANKS is going to guest star! Yes, THE Tyra Banks will give trouty-mouth Sam some modelling advice…

Glee Review: Katy Versus Gaga
Posted by Vanessa Stewart on Nov 17, 2013
Glee - 1st image - season 4
Glee‘s fourth episode of its fifth season features a rambunctious competition between the so-called Lady Gagas and Katy Perrys of New Directions, where some of the gang embody the essence of sweet, kitten-loving Katy and others are bad-ass divas like Gaga. It all begins when Glee club director Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) announces that rival group, Throat Explosion (who are apparently crazy-ass singers/performers), will be their competition this year at Nationals. This elicits quite the response from the glee kids, with Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) exclaiming their Katy Perry-ness can’t compete with Throat Explosion’s Lady Gaga-ness. So instead of feeling defeated, Schuester encourages the kids to find their inner Katys and Gagas. The catch is that the Gagas have to do a Katy song and vice versa.
While the kids prepare their numbers, Sam (Chord Overstreet) is diligently working his way into new school nurse Penny Owen’s heart. After learning that Penny is a fan of Skrillex and Nine Inch Nails, he hides his inner Katy Perry and decides to go all out Gaga in order to impress her. He invites her to the Little Monster-filled performance but Penny isn’t impressed at all. She admits to him after that she is a Katy Perry after all, which relieves Katy-esque Sam, and the two have a serious make out session.
Jake (Jacob Artist) teases Marley (Melissa Benoist) about her inner Katy and doubts her ability to perform a Lady Gaga song with conviction. She ensures him she can, but after seeing him get too close to Bree (Erinn Westbrook), she ends up defying the assignment rules and performs the Gaga song in a Katy Perry outfit mostly to get back at Jake for his wandering eye.
Much to Principal Sue Sylvester’s dismay, several glee club members are roaming the halls in suggestive Lady Gaga/Katy Perry outfits, so Sue suspends them all for a week. Schuester is pissed at Sue for starting their war back up again, and, of course, the two go head to head. In an act of defiance, the New Directions perform the Katy Perry song “Roar.”
So, once again Sue Sylvester is making Will Schuester’s job difficult and New Directions has new competition with one of the weirdest names ever — Throat Explosion. Jake ends up approaching the very willing Bree for some sexual healing, leaving poor Marley in the dark. I don’t like where this storyline is headed.
Over in New York, Kurt (Chris Colfer) decides to start a band. Both Santana (Naya Rivera) and Dani (Demi Lovato) readily join, while Rachel (Lea Michele) declines due to her busy schedule preparing for Funny Girl. Kurt holds open auditions but the only person who shows up is Starchild, real name Elliott Gilbert (played by Adam Lambert). Starchild’s wild glammed-out performance of Lady Gaga’s “Marry the Night” is the high point of this episode, and also seems to be an homage to the memorable audition scene in the film Flashdance. Kurt is completely intimidated by Starchild’s brilliance and declines his entrance into the as-of-yet unnamed band. Both Santana and Dani chide Kurt for not letting him in. Later, Rachel talks to Kurt about not letting his insecurities stop him from being awesomely unique. Kurt finally realizes that his band needs Starchild and asks him to join. After seeing how much fun they are having rehearsing, along with Kurt’s insistent prodding, Rachel ends up joining the band and names the group the Pamela Lansburys.
The Lima and New York storylines are so separate now that it’s like watching two shows. Even though the writers try to connect the two through song — in this episode’s case, both New Directions and Kurt’s band sing the final song “Roar” — it doesn’t really make the show cohesive enough. They should’ve made a New York spin-off instead — though I doubt that it would get the viewership required to stay afloat, I would definitely watch it.
Songs
Lady Gaga’s “Marry the Night” performed by Starchild (Adam Lambert).
Lady Gaga’s “Applause” performed by Sam, Artie (Kevin McHale), Blaine (Darren Criss), and Ryder (Blake Jenner).
Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” performed by Jake, Unique (Alex Newell), Kitty (Becca Tobin), and Tina.
Katy Perry’s “Roar” performed by all members of New Directions except for Marley who was suspended from glee club for a week.
Season 5, Episode 4: A Katy or A Gaga (originally aired November 7, 2013).
Glee airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on FOX.

Review: Adam Lambert delivers fine acting in 'A Katy or A Gaga' on 'Glee
By Markos Papadatos
Nov 17, 2013 - 4 hours ago in Entertainment
Fans of Adam Lambert and "Glee" were in for a real treat, when it was announced that the former American Idol runner-up winner would be on the show in the episode "A Katy or a Gaga."
As Digital Journal previously reported, as "Starchild," Lambert delivered an astounding rendition of Lady Gaga's "Marry The Night."
His vocal performance impressed everybody, except his nemesis, which happened to be the main character Kurt Hummel (played by lead actor Chris Colfer). As a result, Hummel refused to cast "Starchild" in his band, despite everybody raving about him.
Hummel realized his mistake and then subsequently met "Starchild" by accident at a restaurant. Lambert delivered a subtle acting performance and he commanded that scene. He introduced himself to Hummel by his real name Elliot Gilbert, a student at the prestigious New York University (NYU). Lambert was not wearing any over-the-top campy outfits, nor any extraordinary hats or any eyeliner. It was very toned down, and reminiscent of his talent in his American Idol days where in one week he would perform an over-the-top version of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire," and then on the following week deliver a stunning acoustic rendition of the Motown classic "The Tracks of My Tears."
Following this scene, he joined the "Glee" cast in an all-star performance of a tune by yet another pop queen, Katy Perry. This time it was for "Roar," which was another noteworthy vocal.
The Verdict
Overall, this was one of my favorite "Glee" episodes that I have yet to see. It ranks in my Top 2, along with "The Power of Madonna." Demi Lovato was also fabulous as the Dani in this episode, and she had great faith in Lambert's character "Starchild." Hopefully, we will be seeing Adam Lambert on "Glee" many more times throughout the season, since he showcases an enormous amount of talent and charisma.
