I managed to lose 1.6 this week. It is so hard due to not being able to exercise to burn calories. Need to eat less than 1000 calories per day to make any progress. My 2nd 'eating' day for the month is this week, so know that will derail me. I need to decide that I can only allow myself to eat one day per month, that would help!

scotia, if I'm reading and adding up your posts right (-4.2, +.8, -1.6) then you have lost 5 pounds so far this month, I would consider that to be pretty fantastic progress and no need to cut back on your "eating" days.
stardust, lol I feel for ya with the bad habits. I came home starved in the afternoon on Friday and just stuffed myself instead of cutting portions in half and saving some for the evening. And of course I don't think of that until I put the last bite into my mouth and then you feel like bopping your forehead and saying "I could have had a V8".

chapf - the cake is AMAZING!!!! now I am going to "see myself" in one of your "walkers"! I am guilty of not checking in here mainly because I was afraid to get on the scale... I did get my courage this morning and things are not too bad: I haven't lost but I haven't gained either... I gave up on trying to jog in this freezing windy weather, so I am getting some cardio by walking up the stairs for about 5 mins (an advantage of living in a high-rise)...gets my legs tired but disappointingly it is not much of a calorie burner according to Lose It....(only 36 cals!) Great to see your progress, ladies! KEEP IT UP!

Chapf, can you put a swimmer on the cake? I'm a swimmer and aquarobics gal (and mowing, weeding, gardening). Otherwise, I'm really struggling this week. Too many carbs, too much TV and not enough exercise. Struggling to get back on track!!!! Hey, someone like me! I too do aquarobics plus the gardening stuff (but only 3 seasons out of the year). My total problem is my love for carbs. I used to deny myself them totally but now eat 45 carbs at each meal plus two 15 carb snacks. My weight loss is slow and steady when I stay on this plan. My problem is stress. I am a comfort eater and when something throws me a curve I head straight for the kitchen. I guess the important thing is that I know that I'm doing it. I need some advice to take the fact that I recognize that I'm doing it to making myself stop. It's especially hard this time of year when the days are short and it's cold outside. There are not too many places to escape the kitchen. I literally will have potato chip crumbs on my lips while I'm cabinet surfing for more! Any suggestions on how to turn the brain away from food when the stomach is already full will be appreciated!

I don't know how to alleviate cravings from stress as I am the opposite - I loose my appetite completely.... but in general I use gum - if I feel I need to "eat" I take a piece of gum and it seems to help. Obviously not having the "bad" stuff in your kitchen helps as well, but if you don't want to deprive your family members, so it might be hard...

Wednesday - Check in Day
I'm going with my results from this morning which is -1 for a total of -4. Yeah, jumping jacks here.
Oh, on those salads in a jar. They do keep pretty well. I made one on Tuesday that I was planning on eating on Wednesday but didn't get to till Saturday. I didn't put in salad dressing but had black beans, chicken, cheese plus lettuce. Everything was crisp and good.
nica575 - get back on those stairs and ignore Lose It. How many flights up can you do? I'd love to have stairs around, if I had an elevator to go down in. And don't be afraid of checking in whether you step on the scale or not. "puts on my Mom voice" you just get yourself here, ya hear?
coo.coo.ca.choo - I crave chocolate when I'm stressed so I'll put some Nutella on a cracker and sometimes that will stop me from making my three minute fudge. I'm like you, a cabinet surfer lol. I'm trying to remember that I have carrots and they dip nicely into peanut butter. Can you get some Cuties tangerines or mandarin oranges? They take time to peel which helps take the craving off. Oh and jello, but you have to prepare that ahead of time.

Yay! Down another 1.8 lbs. even though I haven't managed to do much walking. I have been doing the salad in a jar thing too and it is working pretty well when I remember to make them. LOL
ETA: Oops, got home and saw that came through as 1/8 when it should have been 1.8. LOL

Exercising was tough this week because we really did end up having bad weather, at least by Texercise standards. We had two ice/snow days. I walked the other days and went to aerobics once.
I also made it to the Farmer's Market on Saturday. It is the off season but I bought some kale, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, grapefruit, and carrots. Nice. For those of you who haven't tried making sweet potatoes in the slow cooker, try it, it is so easy. Just line the slow cooker with a little foil on the bottom. put in 1/4 to 1/3 of a cup of water, and put in your washed sweet potato(es). I cooked a huge one on Monday for three hours on high and it was completely cooked through and ready to eat.
Does anyone here do yoga? A few years back I did a yoga class for a while but I got turned off by all the yuppie trappings -- expensive clothes, mats, accessories, plus being made to chant things in other languages where I didn't know what I was agreeing to. LOL. I really want to become more flexible and I think the mental aspects would also help me. Do you find that a class is best, or do any of you take any of the online classes. I got an ad the other day for Yoga Glo. It looked like they had a lot of classes and I was wondering if anyone had tried it.

I am feeling inspired. Exercised almost everyday, have lost a total of 8 lbs this month and I am starting to feel the difference!
Discovered a new favorite veggie, brussels sprouts! Had never tried them but was inspired to try roasting a bunch of different veggies by DrBri's tweets about how good they are that way. Tossed with oil, balsamic vinegar, whatever spices and roasted, brussels were my favorite and were almost hardy to me. Healthwise I've read that brussels sprouts are the new kale.
I totally get the emotional eating thing-that was pretty much my whole problem. I have tried to turn it around and make my healthy choices one thing to feel good about despite what life throws at me. And I think its important to not make it all about the numbers. If I go out and take a walk I feel accomplished, even if I needed those cookies earlier. And everyday is a new day afterall.
