So this is the moment I fell in love with Adam Lambert.
I watched this season live and while I wasn’t his fan the entire season, I always liked him. This is when he became my front runner, and I knew I would be buying any album he produced thereafter. This is where I started routing for him to win.
For those of you who have only known Adam in the years since Idol (or from Glee), I recommend you watch this video. It’s a side of Adam you don’t see very often and it remains a spectacular performance even years after.
Me when I saw this post: It has to be Mad World. It must be. Fuck yeah! It is! Of course it is!
Still the single, solitary American Idol song in my music library. And the iTunes version is even better.

No offense to Talon or any other Queen fans here, but just my honest opinion: Adam could do this one better. And I have to say, even the band behind Freddie did not have it all together on this one. There was nothing tight there either and those are otherwise brilliant musicians. It also sounded like a Queen song on a bad day, rather than JHR or Elvis. I am not saying that they should have imitated Elvis more, but if you put your own stamp on something you need to be successful and I don't think they were. Somehow, I am just glad to see, that real pros are also human and occasionally don't get something working all that well. Makes it more possible for today's folks to live up to the greats. I think sometimes it has become a habit to glorify everything that was done in the past and over-critique what is attempted today. Instead, Adam would sing it better and his band would not sound worse if they attempted that song. YMMV |
