I don't know ASL but it looked beautiful to me! Hope she got an A! Maybe one of our ASL experts could comment. I am not an interpreter, but I am a native user of ASL. I am impressed by the amount of vocabulary she displays during this performance. That is usually the first item that makes me cringe when I watch these types of performances. She also displayed a good amount of confidence, although you could tell she was nervous. There are some conceptually inaccurate signs being used (she uses the sign for "escape" for "always on the run"), it is also pretty English based signs. She didn't interpret the song and convey it's true meaning. She mainly signed the words that Adam sang. She did well for a beginning- intermediate ASL class, as I think that is the level of this class. I would even say she has potential to use ASL quite well with more training. Cassie can give a better critique than I can. This young lady isn't ready to do stage performances at this time. I agree with everything you wrote. Not nearly as bad as many song interpretations I have seen, but she fails to convey the meaning behind the words. That's one of the difficult things about interpreting songs and poetry. The words are rarely meant to be taken literally or at face value. And the images word combinations have in one language and culture don't translate literally into another language. In this song, the title is a real challenge to translate. What she signed meant an unnamed someone or something was escaping or running away from love. She also used the wrong sign for "we." It means "all of us together" rather than "the two of us" which skews the entire meaning of the first verse. As a long time teacher of interpretation, I could go on and on, but I will stop. For a beginning student she made a good attempt. The fault is in the teacher's assignment. Beginning students of ASL should not be asked to TRANSLATE anything. Much less a song. Much less Adam's song. It is like giving a person paper and a box of crayons and assigning them to reproduce the Sistine Chapel. but, she had fun and the class got to hear Adam sing.

What do you mean by "what's wrong with them?" Nothing I am just trying to recall the conversations from previous threads as to what was the best label.. and I don't remember this one? Many theories that it was Cherry Tree -- fans also revived that idea with the cherry floral suit. I do not see Adam signing with Cherry Tree but I think it is the type of label he will sign with (or it was the kind of label he might pick before the split from Interscope -- it is now a venture label associated with UMG.) Martin Kierszenbaum (who runs Cherry Tree) is very hands on/controlling and that does not seem to be a good fit for Adam. And he has not done so well with his artists lately. Here is some info: www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/1084987/martin-kierszenbaum-cherrytree-part-ways-with-interscope-confirmedI hope/expect that Adam signed with LAVA - because I think Adam wants to conquer mainstream pop without concessions. Jason Flom (LAVA) suits Adam and can help him do that. LAVA is part of Republic records -- a better location to be within UMG for what Adam has said he wants to achieve. Jason has a good relationship with UMG/Republic. That matters. So Cherry Tree would not be bad, I think LAVA would be better -- much better. ETA: Cherry Tree is not part of Interscope -- they are distributed by UMG and get some funding from UMG/Interscope. But they got a messy corporate "divorce" in 2012. After UMG would not agree to the terms, they signed a new deal last June -- here is the new report -- but it is a distribution deal: www.musicweek.com/news/read/cherrytree-records-renews-interscope-deal/053975And Cherry Tree is only responsible for Jessie Ware in the US, not the UK. ETA2: Disclosure -- I am not a Martin K. fan. He makes the folks at RCA look brilliant and he total f'ed up Far East Movement. The last album debuted with first week US sales of 3,000 units.

Please let something happen this week! I wonder if Ivy's tweet is the beginning of the "cat being let out of the bag?!" I hope so! You know that tweet from her must have been "Adam approved." And if I were to guess, I'd guess that duet is already done! THIS I can't wait for..always hoped they would sing together..

I love this man: Miles Tougeaux @milestougeaux Just heard Macklemore for 1st time. Gotta say I dont care what replaces it but look forward to the death of Rap/Hiphop. Its truly hideous. LOL - have to disagree with Dadbert. I don't like everything on The Heist, but do find several quite entertaining, and a couple are thought provoking. I can understand, tho, that the Rap fans are totally upset that Macklemore took home the Grammys. Certainly not traditional rap. And if people like me are listening - probably the kiss of death
