1.27.14 Adam News and Info

I'm not Q3, but I believe the original assumption that something would happen on 1/28 came from the fact that Shoshanna was in LA and the date seemed right for moving forward. Since then, Shoshanna has responded in a tweet that her trip was not Adam related, and so that was the end of that.

Q3, I find your post about Cherry Tree and its owner interesting, but also a tad worrysome. I know nothing about these labels, but clearly Mr Martin Kierszenbaum is married to his company. German word for Cherry Tree is Kirschenbaum - and it is pronounced exactly the way the phonetic transcription Kierszenbaum would sound. He is clearly that company and the company is him, whatever this might mean for Adam, if anything.

Adam has given multiple clues that point in that cherry tree direction, the suit was only one of them. He also gave multiple hints that could point to Lava, so we will just have to see, what happens.

Maybe that venture that Cherry Tree has started has something to do with Lava and we just don't know that yet. Maybe those new offices in NY are there for something we don't know about.

Let me step away from these company specifics for a moment, because I know nothing about them, but talk about the wider picture.

What is becoming very apparent to me, is that there are more and more people who are seeing the death of the traditional labels happening right before everyone's eyes. If the labels go, so goes the value stream formerly called payola that is part of the financing scheme somewhere behind the scenes of the radio world.

We find that more and more alternative paths to successful music placements are found, where radio finds itself in the position of a follower and not that of a leader. Tracks are reaching their audience without radio's help with more and more frequency. Yes, it is right now still a very occasional event, like the early drops before the rain, but their frequency is increasing in number and it is very unlikely that it will stop any time soon.

New networks are forming, musicians are working not only cross- genre, but cross-generation like never before. Adam is again at the front of a trend with his TSP cooperations, but he is by no means alone. It seems to be happening everywhere all of a sudden. People like Nile Rogers, Paul McCartney and others, are hanging with a young group of artists at a party, artists that are actually making music and they are sometimes with labels, but at other times also bypassing the traditional label arrangements. Its a wild mix in a world that was previously segregated, by age, by label, by genre, by level of commercial success. This new generation thinks entrepreneurial in nature, and looks for talent more than pocketbook or previous associations.

Whoever was talking about networking, that is exactly what seems to be going on here. What musically will become of this, will still have to wait a little.

In every chaos there is always opportunity. New ventures will form and we will get interesting new experimental music, besides the spoon-fed one from yesteryear.

Clive Davis' party on Saturday was of the old kind, and the Daft Punk party on Sunday was the new world.

Adam attended the latter party. That is all we can say for now. I think there is something cooking that will come to light eventually. Maybe not tomorrow, but probably soon. 2014 is going to be an pivotal year for music, I believe and for Adam especially.
