I saw that. Was just flipping channels and stopped and watched. really good show and I'm not a big country fan. Just like a few artists like Willie, Patsy and Hank, etc. Think I will add Garth! I don't follow country artists, but I think I remember something about Garth several years ago - about him wanting to stop touring or recording the country country stuff. Even if it was very lucrative, it was driving him crazy because he wasn't doing the kind of music he would rather do. Maybe Junie would know.. Anyway, maybe he's doing what he loves now is excited about life and art again. Can't listen to STL now, but will later. This is such an interesting place! Garth was frustrated because demands of the labels and fans to replicate his winning formula were making it difficult to develop artistically. He did a concept album that was widely mocked because it did deviate so much from his hits. He likes to do social message songs, some of which got the cold shoulder from radio despite his huge success and fan base -- especially "We Shall Be Free" for example with a line about gay rights. This was in 1992. Garth was inspired to write the song by the LA riots, but added the part about gay rights in support of his sister, who was a well-known Tulsa musician who happened to be lesbian. He did win a GLAAD award for the song. Anyway, he was also tired of doing huge stadium shows, touring all the time, and felt it contributed to the breakup of his marriage. He remarried country star Trisha Yearwood and retired, vowing not to return until his youngest child graduated from high school, which has now occurred, hence his return to the stage. He seems totally pumped up and ready to roll.

Garth Brooks has always been one of my favorites and he received an amazing amount of ridicule when he tried to move away from country music. Good for him to do what he wants!!!

Garth Brooks created an alter ego Chris Gaines and put an album out under that name. Here's a little bit about him on Wiki. Chris Gaines (born August 10, 1967 [1]) was a fictional alternative rock persona created as an alter ego for Garth Brooks to explore rock and roll styles far removed from his success as a country singer. Initially, Brooks planned to feature the Gaines persona in The Lamb, a motion picture which never materialized. In 1999, Brooks released one album as Gaines; the album produced three charting Billboard singles, including the Top 5 pop hit "Lost in You." There's more on Wiki listed under Chris Gaines. I have never seen this video and I know almost nothing about Country artist because I just don't care for country music but this is a very moving video. Thanks for posting it. Good for Garth Brooks to be a maverick and do what inspires his artistic vision!

There should be a law against polls that last for more than a couple of days. Violators will be put to death. It sounds harsh, I know, but you have to draw the line somewhere. Tiptoeing in really quietly to post a couple of polls....eek! Where's Murly?! Shhhh!

Good for Garth Brooks to be a maverick and do what inspires his artistic vision! Glad you liked it. Garth made a number of socially conscious videos. "The Dance" shows examples of people who have died for a dream, and "The Thunder Rolls" depicted domestic violence so powerfully that some people wanted to ban it. This can be such a great medium. I hope in Era 3 Adam gets a chance to make the great videos we know are inside him. I thought BTIKM was incredible.
