Let's hope the new single get's added to Sean Parker’s Spotify playlist. That should help to generate some buzz. That could happen is Adam is signed to LAVA which is technically an independent Joint Venture with UMG. It is supposed to be only indie artists but Lorde was signed to LAVA and Jason Flom is the one who sent Royals to Parker. Yes, I am on Team LAVA.

Well sure Adam has always been polarazing when it comes to radio, so no guareentees their. But considering MM track record, Adam has more support from the people who contribute to radioplay. Lets be honest when it comes to Grammys, its susposed to be based on critical acclaim, but most of the winners the past five years are juggurnaut commercial artists, so a huge radio hit for Adam well suppport the album, he diddnt have that last era. First, just one thing -- I never use the term payola except to in a historic sense. And neither RCA or UMG would risk a direct pay scheme OR repeat the issues of their work through independent promoters from about 10-15 years ago. I typical use the expression promo support. Very different. BTIKM was RCA's attempt something different. The problem is that there was a massive disconnect. The promo idea -- Adam has a lot of digital power and a passionate fanbase. Release a single on December 20, 2011 during the holiday freeze. (That means when US radio does not make any radio playlist additions.) Let Adam's fans go crazy and generate buzz online. The big disconnect: > 1. There was a disconnect with RCA A&R and they wanted Adam to be reintroduced with a song like WWFM that would have mainstream appeal. The pick the least buzzworthy song on the planet -- BTIKM -- for Adam. A song that would not offend anyone. > 2. There was not performance video -- Adam's strong suit. Adam first performed "Better Than I Know Myself" on January 17, 2012 on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In line with RCA's strategy, he appeared with minimal make-up while wearing a black suit and white shirt with no tie. He was not to be "scary". > 3. The music video premiered on February 3, 2012, after the song was DOA. The promo support issue: One of the big things that artists do to promote music to Top 40 stations is go visit them, and do local promotional performances. RCA funded two US radio tours. I am too lazy to look up when the first was in March 2012 when there was no single #2 picked, no album release date. That was the "listening" tour to meet with PDs and major DJs. RCA had no intent to listen to anyone. I am sure everyone but the fans knew that. *** Who says Adam is polarizing when it comes to radio? Adam may be polarizing when it comes to Idol fans, but I do not think that he is polarizing to radio execs. But radio execs need to deliver an audience and keep their audience happy. If you we an 18 year old girl do you really want to listen to BTIKM? *** "What will be different this time if the radio again does not like MM single they have chosen??" I think it is all about the music, so ask me when we can listen to some. Radio airplay is not a popularity contest. Do you really think that radio PDs like Robin Thicke? And Daft Punk did not do a radio tour or promo events. At the end of the day, it is about music the "right" people what to hear repeated. And the right people are women 15 to 29 and 18 - 49. *** There is a new Audi TV campaign and the music is an updated edit/remix of WRTC. Probably not a coincidence. And good for both Queen and Adam. Okay maybe polarizing is the wrong word, just making a reference to his lack of radio support. I do beleive too it has been wrong single choices, opposed to a popularity contest. Like I said Trespassing was in a female dominated genre one pop/dance. I think Adams niche is pop/rock, i think right now Adam has more in common with the pop girls then the pop boys. So he stands out i guess, as a kiwi i would love if Adams music while not copying but borrows the same kinda trends Lordes Label did, would also love a Lorde Adam collab, obviousley wont happen but Lordes huge right now.

Q3, I don't think Adam ever had his own bus. He was always with the dancers and Lane. He did upgrade to his own bedroom though.

[wryly] Max Martin definitely has his vision, and then gets his artists to adhere. The results are often impressive. However, this mashup in which Adam and Pink mesh so freaking perfectly is probably because MM decided *he* wanted the song to sound a certain way and ordered two great vocalists to walk in on a tightrope to match what was in his mind. That said, the lyrics were Pink's. But from what I remember from an interview, the execution was apparently pure Max Martin "do it my way'. Nonetheless, the result was effective. So unless MM and Adam's visions are very, very similar, Adam may have to be biting his tongue again in the matter of single selection. If it gets him the big hit(s) he wants so badly, it will be worth it if it gives him freedom in the long run..... Right? I'm looking at it this way - WWFM allowed Adam to pull off the GNT. Note that the actual song was buried in the middle of the tour's set list and his New Orleans "Voodoo" theme was all Adam (based off a bonus track no less). A hit song = opportunities. Adam can then mesh *those* opportunities any way he likes. And, well, there's worse things in life than a Max Martin track. They're popular because they sound good. And based on this writing camp model, MM is definitely listening during the creation process. He may be "my way or else" during the actual recording session, but Adam is getting a chance to shape the sound. Things could be worse.

Although, I would guess he puts a lot of trust in someone like Max.

Q3, please eloborate on how Adam bootstrapped GNT. Bootstrapping is stretching resources--both financial and otherwise--as far as they can. So Adam got money from RCA for tour support, and added two RCA acts with some promo support to the tour. (I expect Orianthi had more money than Alison for tour support.) So in the beginning of the GNT the venues were small and included a few radio promotions plus casino shows and festivals with guarantees. The first big event, Toronto Molson Amphitheatre, was a radio promo. He did not hold the risk. As the tour went on, he accumulated funds, proved to promoters that the tour was a safe bet. He also had more money to work with. There were three buses in Wilkes-Barre -- the band, Alison and Alison's band shared a bus. The dancer and Adam shared a bus. Oranthi and her band had a bus. Plus there was an equipment truck. Along the way they added a really nice bus for Adam. The upgraded the band bus. They upgraded the equipment and added a bigger crew. I have no idea how much of this is Adam, how much is his team, but my impression is that he is a much sharper businessperson than he leads on. Neil has on his resume that there was a crew of 38 people. That was a big risk for someone as new as Adam. profiles.google.com/110296701616703407347/about?hl=enAdam finding a way to have his own tour while I'm sure the PTB wanted him to safely open for someone bigger and established make me wonder if Adam might be trying something different with A3. I believe Adam said in the Kid Kraddick interview that he was risking his own money on GNT. Adam has always invested in his craft. He spent more money on wardrobe than allotted during AI. The most of any contestant in the history of the show. He knew it was important to have a certain look. Adam's Q score has to be higher post a successful run on Glee and a high demand North American Queen Tour. Miley Cyrus completed her album then shopped a label. Is it possible that Adam would do something similar? Adam is a risk taker that has invested in his own success in the past. I have no doubt he could get a major label I am just questioning the timing. He knew he had Glee and Queen coming up even though it wasn't public knowledge.

I accidently stumbled upon fanfic when my daughter (then 14) wanted permission to post a very "G" story she had written about the Jonas Brothers. The first story I saw was a Harry Potter fanfic pairing Harry and Draco. I was traumatized. We found an under 18 board for her to post her story on and left LJ. Trivia: "50 Shades of Grey" started as a "Twilight" Fanfic.
