Crispy, I don't think Max writes generic Pop songs. Besides, WWFM and IIHY, listen to P!NK's Funhouse album. He wrote 4 of them & they are among my favorites. Anything but generic!"Please Don't Leave Me"
"I Don't Believe You" << Adam's favorite on this album
"It's all Your Fault"
He writes for the artist he is working with. Swift is watered down and made for her audience. Adam's will be tailored for him!
Max Martin really does write for the artist...here are a few more examples:
Britney - "...Baby One More Time"
Backstreet Boys - "I Want It That Way"
Bon Jovi - "It's My Life" -- heavy metal, alt metal (The only 1980's metal band to have a Top 40 hit in this century.)
Celine Dion - "That's the Way It Is"
BB Hot 100 #3, Adult Comporary #1 in the United States and Canada, top 10 all over the world. It was Dion's first airplay-only single that charted on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 6 (number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay).
Kelly Clarkson - "Since U Been Gone", "Behind These Hazel Eyes", "My Life Would Suck Without You"
Katy Perry - "I Kissed a Girl", "Hot n Cold", 4 of the #1 hits and a #3 hit from Teenage Dream.
Pink - "So What", "F**kin' Perfect" and so many more!
Ke$ha - "Blow"
Tao Cruz - "Dynamite"
Maroon 5 - "One More Night"
Taylor Swift - "I Knew You Were Trouble", "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"
Pittbull - "Wild Wild Love"

I trust Adam to bring his own vision to his music, to keep it real. Being generic is not one of Adam's challenges. In fact, even on covers, he turns generic pop songs into something pretty special -- my example, MTN which is a generic, formulaic dance pop song with moronic lyrics. (Even in 2011 when Lady Gaga was at her peak of popularity, it peaked at #27 on the BB Hot 100), he can do something.
I'm gonna marry the dark
Gonna make love to the stark
I'm a soldier to my own emptiness
I am a winner
Take Adam's talent, ability, ability to convey emotion -- and pair it with Max Martin, the most successful pop and pop-rock songwriter and producer in the work, and my bet is we will get songs that are built on Adam's voice, heart, wit and soul, and that are hits.
> This is not a fast 1 day, record these vocals and go away process like FYE was. This is weeks with songwriters and producers working with Adam in a creative collective centered on one thing -- ADAM.
Working with Max Martin, someone who has the ability to create big hits that are current, that are definitive songs for major artists, is the perfect combination for Adam.
On the idea of max Martin creating "generic pop". If you consider "Dynamite" = "I Knew You Were Trouble" = "It's My Life" = "That's the Way It Is" = "Blow" = "So What" = generic pop, then my suggestion is you listen to these songs again. Max moves across genres, he does not write in a vacuum, he works with artists.
And be fair to the music, for example, you may not like Taylor Swift but "I Knew You Were Trouble" is a pretty good song.
Finally, and most importantly in many ways, Max Martin started out as a musician in a glam-style metal band "It's Alive" as the lead singer.
