I love Peeps dioramas! Thanks for posting this link -- so funny. I love "Crewe de Peeps" and "Reservoir Peeps" ("Mr. Pink makes his move" -- Lol). And I was hoping someone would find and post the Glam Nation diorama. Still hilarious. Thanks again!  |

A quick comment... ( ETA gotta watch The Voice of Finland finale ) Wow, marshmallow dioramas, I've never heard or seen anything like that! We have lamb, curd in some form or our own odd specialty, 'mämmi' as dessert; eggs, chocolate eggs, maybe some other candy too. Also yellow decorations, chicks on grass that we grow on a plate f.ex.; daffodils, narcissus and crocus are the most common flowers connected to Easter. The traditional decorations are pussy willows as found in the nature at this time; children usually decorate the branches with colourful papers (candy wrappers when I was young) and do a 'trick or treat'-like routine a week before. We have extra holidays on friday and on monday making it a long weekend. Only small shops selling groceries are allowed to be open on fri, sun, mon; saturday is normal, short hours as usual. Limited public transportation, too (fri and sun I believe). PS Just to give an idea of how foreign a religion other than Lutheran is to us in everyday life, articles etc., official stats: In 1980 there were 90.3% Lutheran, in 2000 we had 85.1% Lutheran, 1.1% Orthodox, 1.1% other and 12.7% not belonging to any religious group. In 2013 there are 75.2% Lutheran, 1.1% Orthodox, 1.5% other and 22.1% not belonging. Note that most people belong to the church due to tradition, only a small amount of them is actually practising and I expect the amount of 'not belonging' to increase further. |

Sort of OT - but do other countries have today off as a holiday? It's "Good Friday" here in Canada (part of the Easter long weekend), which just means that absolutely everything is closed. Good day to stay in bed. :-) Many companies and all government offices/schools/banks etc also have monday off. Couple of interesting things of note in this vein. First, when I lived in the US the first time [95, Fairbanks AK] I was really shocked at both the high levels of religiosity, and then that Good Friday and Easter Monday were not holidays...did not seem to make sense as Canada is a far less religious nation as a whole. The second thing of lesser note, here on my little BC coast hippie island [full of long time ex US draft dodgers from the Viet Nam war who stayed on] everything pretty much is open. Locals are hiding out as this island is a vacation/tourist destination spot and this is opening weekend for the 2014 season...ferries from the mainland have been completely pre-sold for days! gaahhh....there will be no parking anywhere and peeps wander about like the roads were just part of a huge mall......sigh...I think I have just talked myself out of going downtown lol |
