Is Sam Smith the new hot thing (on SNL or something)? Just heard something on the radio - sounded like a cross of Adele and a boy band (don't like that falsetto (I know that's not the right word)). I continue to think that Adam is just too good for today's everyday pop groupie. Crossing every finger and toe that I have that between QAL, Avicii, and A3 the US will finally wake up and listen. Sam Smith was on SNL March 29, 2014. He was excellent. Got great reviews. Pop music is actually quite good right now. The US and Global Top 40 charts are filled with excellent songs -- and is very competitive. I would not expect QAL to do much to promote Adam to CHR/Top 40 radio. Queen was at their commercial peak in the US in 1979. It will get a lot of press, but not likely to matter much to most current music fans -- many of whom have parents who do not know Queen beyond the stadium hits. (An 18 year old was born in 1996, her mom was born around 1979 -- around when Queen peaked here.) >> My guess is that most of the "young" fans (under 40) at QAL will be there to see Adam. IF LMD is a hit, it could do a lot for Adam because it will be played on the radio formats he what to impact. Mostly likely, it will be more important outside of North America -- but it will be hard to see it being a second WMU. In Europe, Australia, NZ, Isreal it is #5 single from the album. #1 single gets a lot of promo money. If an album produces serial hits like TRUE has done, than the #3 single is often a promotional focus to keep the sales moving and "Hey Brother" has done that. But mostly Adam's commercial prospects rest on A3, how good the music is, and if it fits the market. Finally, Adele and Lorde have had serial Top 40 radio hits. So no barrier to having people who "sing" on the radio right now. |

Q3, WMU peaked at #1 and in 5 formats! One of those being the Top 40 chart! It was at #1 for a few weeks too! #4 was the Billboard Hot 100. But if we are talking radio play, 5 #1s!! I was using the best chart to measure popularity per market -- and in the US, Canada and Japan, that is the Hot 100 -- sales, radio airplay and streaming media. And WMU peaked at #4 US, #2 Canada. >> No doubt WMU is a big song in the US, but it is not a #1 song and AVICII still does not have one here or in Canada. >> WMU is bigger in Europe and Australia than it is in the US and Canada. OK, he has added a nose piercing and an ear piercing. He is playing with his hair. So Adam is either bored or is developing something style-wise for A3 or another project. Whaaaaaat Adam, I want to know! It's too early for a mid-life crisis. Maybe he just feels that now he can do whatever he wants without R_CA giving him grief! Maybe he's just bored with his hair and feels like playing... Mine has been black brown white pink red depending on my mood. |

New thread is up!
I think Adam was having some fun with his hair -- but I would not be surprised if there was something going on we do not know about yet. Perhaps a magazine shoot.
