4.27.14 Adam performs at private party, new Adam co-writes +

I don't want to hear one single song from his two albums. I want all new songs. Lots of blues. A jazz standard's okay. Actually, I'd be happy with a 3-day jam session.

He's sitting in the Denver airport on a honking long layover..???  Denver is the Mile High City..

One..should I be proud or embarrassed at my total lack of skills in this area?

I think that LinaG23's island has kind of happened, in Stockholm, in the middle of winter, not less. I think that multiple songwriters were given access in a 'lets just drift for a while and see where all this goes' - kind of way. At least that is my impression. And that is why new names are showing up, imo.

If you ask me what style I would want for Adam to sing to me on 'my island', I'd tell you, I have no clue. Adam has surprised me again and again with musical styles that I would not have touched with a pole, years earlier. And those songs that were in my typical rock wheelhouse that I thought that my musical tastes belonged into, prior to Adam, turned out to be not my favorites after all. So, I have given up trying. Clearly, I do not only not know, what the market wants, I don't even know what I want.

One thing, I do know though, is that Adam has not fully found his ultimate style or method of conveying his message. How do you use this absolutely unique kind of voice and make that leap forward that indigo children are destined to make. I don't know.

I believe that 'give it time and let it play out' is exactly what is needed to go forward. And if there is any impression I am getting from the writing camp in Sweden, then it is that.

Adam has an instrument for which music has not been written yet. This is not just a question of range, even though that is one topic among many. It is a question of phrasing, articulation, dynamics, message, melodic structure, rhythmic interest. I sum, it is a question of overall musical style.

The only thing, I know, is that Adam's music is always rich. Chocolatey rich. With full instrumentation, rich rhythmic sounds, vocal extravaganza layered in multiples on top of it.

Message? Yes there needs to be one, and one of substance. Adam does not fair well with 'never close your eyes because this is a party', meaningless lyrics.

There is always double entendre (assuming Bruno Mars does not write the song). And that is not a diss against BM, I like a lot of his stuff, but it is not right for Adam. There is always something more meaningful than the obvious, something personal in there. And there is usually something sexy that comes out of it, because otherwise it would not be Adam.

But otherwise, I do not know what Adam's music will sound like, and the idea that a whole bunch of folks got a chance to really give that question some thought, pleases me immensely. Adam is a natural catalyst. Somebody who brings himself into the process and contributes every step of the way, but yet inspires great work in others, on his behalf.

Music Again was not really my favorite, even though in theory it is more rock leaning. But this is interesting in so many ways.

Love that Adam (and in this case his friends and others inspried by him) are making me hit that F5 button a lot.
