Adam Lambert to release ‘Very Best Of’ album
Posted On 29 Apr 2014 21:43
By : Nick Levine
An Adam Lambert compilation album will be released in the US next month (May).
The Very Best Of Adam Lambert will feature 14 tracks including three of the singer’s best-loved American Idol performances and the cover of Lady Gaga’s Marry the Night he performed on Glee recently.
The rest of the album will comprise tracks from his two studio albums, 2009′s For Your Entertainment and 2012′s Trespassing – including the hit singles Never Close Your Eyes and Whataya Want From Me.
The album will mark the end of the singer’s deal with his former record label RCA, and will get a “physical release” in the US on May 27, Billboard reports.
Meanwhile, last month (March) it was revealed that Lambert is working on new material with super producer Max Martin (Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys), who will serve as the executive producer of his next album.
He is also set to join Queen for a North American tour this summer.

Compilation album of Adam Lambert hits - and more - to be released next month
The Very Best of Adam Lambert will include three performances from American Idol
29 April 2014 | By Greg Hernandez
Adam Lambert has been plenty busy in 2014 filming episodes of Glee and preparing a tour with the surviving members of Queen.
One thing he has not done lately is release a new album.
But Sony Legacy is taking care of that - sort of.
The parent company of the singer's former label, RCA, is releasing a 14-track collection of Lambert's greatest hits and more on 27 May titled The Very Best of Adam Lambert.
Lambert recording just two albums for RCA (owned by Sony). They were For Your Entertainment in 2009 and Trespassing in 2012 which made Lambert the first openly gay male singer to have an album reach number one.
Lambert later walked away from his contract because the company wanted his third album to be a collection of covers.
The compilation album, which prolific tweeter Lambert has not mentioned on Twitter, will include Lambert's American Idol covers of Tears for Fears' Mad World and U2's One as well as his version of Lady Gaga's Marry the Night which he performed in Glee, according to Billboard.com.
His biggest hits are Whataya Want From Me, If I Had You, Better Than I Know Myself, Never Close Our Eyes and Trespassing.
As far as new music, Billboard reported last month that Lambert is currently working on a third studio album with producer Max Martin who produced two tracks on Lambert's first album including Whataya Want From Me.

Excerpt from socialitelife.com
According to reports, RCA will release a best of CD on May 27 featuring music from Adam’s previous albums Trespassing and For Your Entertainment, plus songs from American Idol and even Glee.
Basically no Lambert stone will be left unturned. I’m really obsessed with what’s written in the liner notes.
“If some of these tracks feel like musical mission statements, it’s in their skillful fusion of mainstream pop and rock with left-of-center, if not underground, musician and pop-cultural markers, and their clear conviction towards that mission. And it that’s not the hallmark of an artist who’s unfailingly true to himself… well, you are invited to listen to some more until you get it.”
I doubt Adam has anything to do with his album–he’s yet to Tweet anything about it–but I do think whoever wrote that knew exactly what they were talking about. Check out the official track listing below.
Hopefully this will be an incentive for Adam to get his new music out there. Will you be picking up a copy of The Very Best of Adam Lambert when it hits shelves? Or are you not falling for the RCA money trap? Sound off in the comments below!

Excerpt from Idolator:
Adam Lambert has been busying himself by taking part in recording sessions with Max Martin (who was behind the singer’s Grammy-nominated Top 10 hit “Whataya Want From Me”), hitting the set of Glee for his recurring role as Elliot “Starchild” Gilbert and prepping for his upcoming summer tour with Queen. But while Lambert has parted ways with RCA since the release of his 2012 sophomore LP Trespassing, that isn’t stopping the label’s parent company Sony from issuing The Very Best Of Adam Lambert in May, via imprint Sony Legacy.
According to Billboard, the compilation will be released on May 27 — a mere three weeks before the Adam/Queen tour kicks off at Chicago’s United Center (on June 19). Hmmmm. Interesting timing. Might Sony be regretting losing the American Idol alum, now that he’s suddenly so prolific in 2014?

"WE'RE IN GOOD SHAPE - BRING IT ON. ONE MORE TIME"
BRIAN MAY ON HOW QUEEN + ADAM LAMBERT TOUR PREPARATION GOING
In an interview with The Breeze Radio Network, Brian May was asked how things were shaping up towards the tour.
TRANSCRIPT by JEN TUNNEY
Source: Brianmay.com
DAMIEN ST JOHN: How's the preparation going for the North American tour?
BRIAN MAY: We're in good shape. Yeah, you have to start very early with these things, so we've been talking production and design for a few months now. But yeah - all that remains is to get our bodies fit, and our minds fit, so that we can ...
DAMIEN: How do you do that? Yoga? cos I've just started Yoga.
BRIAN: Well, Yoga's great. I'm not actually a great follower of Yoga. Maybe I should be. I do - I have an exercise regime, which I'm getting back into. I suppose, you know, I think I'm too busy for Yoga. That's a problem, isn't it, which is probably an illusion. [Laughs]
DAMIEN: If you can stretch, Brian, you can do Yoga.
BRIAN: Stretching would be really good for me. Yeah, okay, I'm convinced. I'm getting back into Yoga.
DAMIEN: Now at the Press Conference to announce your North American tour you said "The fans want us to do it, so we'll do it one more time". Is it the last time?
BRIAN: I'm kind of feeling that it is. It's the last big shot. Yeah, we won't be able to do it for ever, you know. Our bodies are not what they were when we were 35. Nevertheless, I'm thriled to have the opportunity. It's amazing that we have the chance. It's incredible that the tour sold out almost instantly. These are big places. It's a tour precisely on the same level as we did in 1986 or whatever with Freddie. So it's a big deal and you have to really take it seriously. We don't take ourselves too seriously hopefully, still, we take the job seriously and we want to be good value, and it will be something pretty big - pretty special, I think.
DAMIEN: And Adam Lambert's on board doing the vocals.
BRIAN: He is.
DAMIEN: And what impresses me most - cos I've followed his career from American Idol onwards...
BRIAN: American Idol, yeah.
DAMIEN: ... is he has ownership of the songs - and I think I that's the one thing that maybe, just as a fan, that Freddie had, cos he didn't sing a song in a standard way whatsoever. He played around with it. It was up and it was down. Adam seems to do that as well.
BRIAN: He does. He's a really fine artist, you know, with a stupendous instrument. That's a voice in a billion. I know Freddie, for a fact, would gasp at the stuff that Adam is able to do. You know, Freddie was one of the greatest singers of all time. There's no question of that, but he would've looked at Adam and thought "Oooh, my God. That boy's got something", you know. And Adam's a nice person to work with as well, which is really important. You can't go out around the world with people you don't like. We've been very fortunate, and I've been incredibly fortunate to work with some great people who are also great human being...
- so bring it on. One more time.

A beautiful reprise of Brian’s Interview…
Queen's Brian May: "Freddie Mercury would gasp at the stuff that Adam Lambert is able to do"
Tuesday, April 29, 2014 8:23am by London Newsdesk
Queen icon Brian May believes Freddie Mercury would be taken aback by the talents of Adam Lambert.
The Brit, who died in 1991, is regarded as one of rock's best vocalists - but his bandmate May thinks Mercury would be pleased about Queen's new singer.
The band are set to tour North America this summer with previous collaborator Lambert on vocals.
Speaking to the Breeze Radio Network, May said of the singer's abilities:
"He's a really fine artist, you know, with a stupendous instrument. That's a voice in a billion. I know Freddie, for a fact, would gasp at the stuff that Adam is able to do. You know, Freddie was one of the greatest singers of all time. There's no question of that, but he would've looked at Adam and thought 'Oooh, my God. That boy's got something', you know.
"And Adam's a nice person to work with as well, which is really important. You can't go out around the world with people you don't like. We've been very fortunate, and I've been incredibly fortunate to work with some great people who are also great human being."
Speaking meanwhile about the preparations for the tour - which kicks off in June - May added:
"We're in good shape. Yeah, you have to start very early with these things, so we've been talking production and design for a few months now. But yeah - all that remains is to get our bodies fit, and our minds fit."

Why Are You Not Buying Their Music? Here’s My Top 5 ‘You Need To Know’ Artists [VIDEOS]
By Chad Taylor April 29, 2014 2:44 PM
I’m obviously a big fan of music and an even bigger fan of GREAT music. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting most of the artists / groups on this list. I hope you rush to iTunes to download their music or catch one of their shows next time they’re in the area. This is as good as it gets! How these talents aren’t topping the charts and selling millions of albums is beyond me and my comprehension.
1. Andy Grammer
Andy should be a familiar face and voice to the Mix 94.9 audience. We’ve been playing his hit singles ‘Keep Your Head Up’ and ‘Fine By Me’ since they first hit the air waves back in 2011. His latest single, ‘Back Home’, is available on iTunes and his summer tour will hit the Varsity Theatre in Minneapolis on Tuesday, July 8th. I saw Andy live at the Skyway Theatre last year, and he puts on an amazing show. FYI, he’s playing a college show for St. Johns University in Collegeville this Saturday night (May 5th).
2. Parachute
What can I say about these guys, that hasn’t already been said by industry insiders since they first arrived on the scene back in 2009 with their major label debut ‘Loosing Sleep.’ With radio hits like ‘She Is Love’, ‘Something To Believe In’ and my favorite ‘Kiss Me Slowly’, these Charlottesville, Virginia natives don’t need to sell millions of albums to be a massive success. They constantly tour and make several stops a year in Minnesota. Look for their new album ‘Overnight’ on iTunes.
3. Adam Lambert
One of my all-time favorites. He makes the kind of music he wants to make, and does it on his own terms. He takes risks, bucks the trends, and has a sound all his own. Look up original in the dictionary, and you’ll see his picture. His latest release, ‘Trespassing‘, had a ton of great material on it, and you can catch him this summer on tour with Queen. His fans (The Glamberts) are extremely loyal and are waiting patiently for news of a new album.
youtu.be/X1Fqn9du7xo
4. Haley Reinhart
Beauty, style, and one hell of a voice = Haley Reinhart. Her debut album, ‘Listen Up!‘, was full of surprises. I was shocked that none of the singles took off at radio, and that her time in the spotlight faded fast. As an American Idol alum, she’s got a great fan base and a promising future. I hope the powers-that-be at Interscope Records give her another shot. If not, I’m sure she can do just as well as an indi artist.
5. Midnight Red
These are my dudes! I was fortunate enough to meet these guys at the start of their career and the first one to play them on the radio. I believe Anthony, Eric, Colton, Joey and Thomas are destined for big things. They already have an army of ‘Red Heads’ promoting them all over social media, and a platinum plus producer (Red One) helping them craft their debut album. The guys are currently on tour with The Wanted and have plans to make a trip over seas very soon. Download the new single ‘Hell Yeah‘ or grab their debut E.P. which features the radio friendly hit, ‘Take Me Home.’

The 2014 "Part-of-the-World" Queen + Adam Lambert Tour Countdown!
4.30.14 by Q3
The countdown moves on and the start of this epic tour gets closer. Only 50 days to go!
#50 "My Fairy King" (1973)
Written by Freddie Mercury.
Released on Queen July 13, 1973.
This song is the first track that Queen recorded with the vocal overdub technique that would become a signature of Queen’s music. It was written in the recording studio and allowed Freddie and the band to explore the use numerous voice overdubs and vocal harmonies. Roger took on some of the vocals on this track and hits some of the highest notes in the composition. The same vocal overdubs technique would later be used in many Queen songs, most notably "Bohemian Rhapsody".
GuitarWorld.com Interview: Brian May Discusses Queen's Greatest Moments
Posted 07/19/2013 at 10:15am | by Ben Mitchell
Ben: Did “Bohemian Rhapsody” strike you as a peculiar song when Freddie first suggested it to you?
Brian: No, I don’t think so. You’ve got to bear in mind that we’d already made “My Fairy King” on the first album and we’d done “The March of the Black Queen” on the second album, so we were well in tune with Freddie’s excursions into strange areas, and that was something that we really enjoyed. I personally loved it when he’d come in with something off the wall, because there would always be something interesting for me to do on it. He’d be playing in Ef, which is always difficult for a guitar player, or Fs or whatever, and I would enjoy the challenge of finding things that sounded good on the guitar that went with his piano playing. So I was intrigued. I thought, This is going to be a great thing to work on.

Because this song's melody was so compatible with Queen’s later composition, it was used a few times in medleys. I have never heard one of these reported occasions but of the ones I have heard, my favorite was in 1985 when Queen performed a medley of "Somebody To Love", "The March Of The Black Queen (intro)", "My Fairy King (intro)" and "Killer Queen". It is posted below and worth a listen. This is a medley that I would love Queen to include in a QAL concert!
Source: lair2000.net/fairy_Lyrics2/songs/My_Fairy_King.html
"My Fairy King” is about Rhye, a fantasy world created by Freddie and his sister when they were children. It is featured in other Queen songs, most notably "Seven Seas of Rhye". Freddie quoted some lines directly from Robert Browning's poem "The Pied Piper of Hamelin": And their dogs outran our fallow deer / And honey-bees had lost their stings / And horses were born with eagles' wings.
The lyrics contain a verse with the words "Mother Mercury, look what they've done to me." Brian has said that after the line was written, Freddie claimed he was singing about his own mother. Some very reliable Queen sources state that this song is said to have inspired Freddie to change his surname from Bulsara to Mercury but I believe that Brian’s explanation makes more sense. Freddie changed his stage name to Mercury when he joined Queen; this song was written after Queen was founded so the timing does not seem possible. Freddie did officially change his name to Freddie Mercury in 1973 but that was related to the upcoming release of the first Queen album, not specifically to this lyric or this song.
"My Fairy King" is the first song on the album to feature Freddie on the piano. Brian played piano on "Doing All Right" but he was so impressed by Freddie's piano playing on this track that from this point on Freddie handled most of Queen's piano parts. Surprisingly, Freddie never believe he was a very good pianist.

"Our first album was made in insane circumstances – we just went in there for odd hours during the night, we had so little time, so all those dreams that I had couldn't really come to fruition, but there are little hints. 'My Fairy King' had harmonised guitar on it, but when we came to Queen II, we were actually in a proper studio with time that was booked like a real, proper band and I was determined that we would do all that and we had adventurous ideas on guitar harmonies but also vocal harmonies – just painting a huge picture, which was in our heads. Queen II is a lot of stuff , there's all sorts of guitar parts fighting each other."

“My Fairy King” Live
“My Fairy King” was rarely played live – it was part of the BBC Langham Studio session from 1973. Freddie played the intro in Germany in 1982, he played an improvised version of it in 3 Sun City concerts in 1984, and then a portion of it was performed in Osaka in 1985. The Osaka medley is posted below. I believe that portions of "My Fairy King" instrumental were played in 1973 in concerts but I cannot confirm this since setlists are incomplete for this period and most concerts were not recorded.

“My Fairy King” Lyrics
youtu.be/IAltB4Ojnbg
My Fairy King
In the land where horses born with eagle wings
And honey bees have lost their stings
There's singing forever
Lions den with fallow deer
And rivers made from wines so clear
Flow on and on forever
Dragons fly like sparrows thru' the air
And baby lambs where Samson dares
To go on on on on on on
My fairy king can see things
He rules the air and turns the tides
That are not there for you and me
Oooh yeah he guides the winds
My fairy king can do right and nothing wrong
Then came man to savage in the night
To run like thieves and to kill like knives
To take away the power from the magic hand
To bring about the ruin of the promised land
They turn the milk into sour
Like the blue in the blood of my veins
Why can't you see it
Fire burning in hell with the cry of screaming rain
Son of heaven set me free and let me go
Sea turn dry no salt from sand
Seasons fly no helping hand
Teeth don't shine like pearls for poor man's eyes
Someone someone just drained the colour from my wings
Broken my fairy circle ring
And shamed the king in all his pride
Changed the wings and wronged the tides
Mother mercury mercury
Look what they've done to me
I cannot run I cannot hide
