A National Clear Channel Promotion

This is a National Clear Channel Promotion. Many stations will be participating in this contest but will not be starting any promotion until the contest starts on May 5, 2014. This is one prize that I would love to win!! The contest runs from May 5, 2014 thru June 15, 2014. The official rules are not posted yet but it is almost certainly limited to US residents over 18 years old and ID will be required to claim and use the prize. iHeartRadio Showcase Concert

The concert will be in the iHeartRadio Theater Los Angeles (in Burbank) only has about 450 seats. It used to be the Jay Leno Tonight Show Theater.

The countdown moves on and the start of this epic tour gets closer. Only 46 days to go!

#46 “I'm in Love with My Car” (1975)
Written by Roger Taylor.
Released as the B-side of “Bohemian Rhapsody” October 31, 1975 and on Night at the Opera November 21, 1975.



"I'm in Love with My Car" is one of Roger's most famous songs, not so much because it is a great song but because it was the B-side of BoRhap.

When Brian heard the demo the first time, he thought that Roger was joking. He is reported to have been truly surprised when he learned that Roger was serious.

Honestly, while I love Queen and I adore Roger, this song could have been recorded by Spinal Tap. In fact, I have to check my copy of Tap into America because it could be on that album.

Yes, they not only recorded this song about "automolove", they released it on the otherwise brilliant Night at the Opera and as the B-side of Freddie's masterwork.

Now I know you are thinking it is a guy thing but I not only love my car, but I love many car songs. Give me “Little Red Corvette” by Prince, “Cars” by Gary Numan, “Mustang Sally” by Wilson Pickett, “Radar Love” by Golden Earring, “Drive My Car” by The Beatles, “Mercedes Benz” by Janis Joplin, “American Pie” by Don McLean, “Little Deuce Coupe” by The Beach Boys, or even “Drive” (Who’s Gonna Drive You Home?) by The Cars. Yes, I like car songs by The Cars.

To be fair, I know that this song is a Queen fan favorite and that it is considered by many to be a great car song.

So why did I put I song that I always skip on the countdown? Because Roger loves this song and this Car as sex-substitute song may be on the setlist. May I just say, please, please do not have Adam sing this one. Because I do not want to hear my favorite singer utter these lyrics:

Roger played the guitars in the original demo, but they were later re-recorded by Brian on his Red Special. The lead vocals were performed by Roger on the studio version, and all released live versions. The revving sounds at the conclusion of the song were recorded by Roger's then current car, an Alfa Romeo. The lyrics were inspired by one of the band's roadies, Johnathan Harris, whose Triumph TR4 was evidently the "love of his life". The song is dedicated to him; the album says: "Dedicated to Johnathan Harris, boy racer to the end".

When it came down to releasing the album's first single, Roger was so fond of this song that he urged Freddie (author of the first single, "Bohemian Rhapsody") to allow it to be the B-side and reportedly locked himself in a cupboard until Freddie agreed. This decision would later become the cause of much internal friction in the band, since the B-side of a single generates an equal amount of publishing royalties as the main single.

Not surprisingly, “I’m in Love with My Car” was used in a car commercial. The two surprising things about this are 1. it was not used until 2004 when it was used by Jaguar (USA) and 2. that I could not find a video of it posted online.

The song was often played live during the 1977–81 period. Roger sang it from the drums while Brian played piano and provided backing vocals. It was played during the Queen + Paul Rodgers tour in 2005 and the Rock the Cosmos Tour in 2008. Roger also included it The Cross concerts with The Cross and solo tours, where instead of drums he played rhythm guitar like on the demo recording.

The members of Queen really work a few silly songs. And that is OK. I mean even The Beatles released "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" a Paul song that John, Ringo and George detested.
