The most exciting part of this announcement was that it revealed part of the set design.
Modest Adam Lambert plays down Adam Lambert day
but Glamberts say no!
May 9th, 2014 by Lisa McGarry
Adam Lambert has tried to play down ‘Adam Lambert Day’, insisting that it’s not like his real birthday or an annual event.
Every year, on May 8th, legions of Glamberts around the world celebrate the former American Idol star’s amazing career – which has been going from strength to strength ever since he finished on the reality TV show – and gush over his achievements so far. The tradition was started by San Diego mayor Jerry Sanders in 2009, when he declared “Adam Lambert Day” as the For Your Entertainment star paid a visit home to see his local supporters.
One fan tweeted the handsome singer to wish him well yesterday, however he insisted that while he enjoys the outpouring of love, he thinks that ‘his day’ was a one-off event that occurred five years ago. Lambert tweeted:
“Aww thanks for the memories — but I think it was only my day, THAT day 5 yrs ago … I don’t think it’s annual like a bday.”

But his huge fanbase weren’t allowing his modesty and one replied to Adam saying:
“Well to us Glamberts it’s EVER YEAR! Lol.”
Another posted:
“WELL WE’RE STILL GONNA CELEBRATE IT AND SHIT CUZ YOU DESERVE TO HAVE A DAY EVERY YEAR.”
A third said:
“gurrrrl, no.Every day is Adam Lambert day. A talent to celebrate!!! ”
Adam certainly has had a lot to celebrate over the last twelve months and there’s even more to come. He’s working on his new album and is about to hit the road for a North American tour with Queen. The shows will begin on June 19 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

American Idol EP Per Blankens on Rush Week Cruelty,
Randy's Mentoring, J.Lo Close-Ups
by Michael Slezak
May 9, 2014 11:32 AM PDT
Note: I have just posted the “Adam bits”. Q3
With American Idol‘s milestone 500th episode slated for Wednesday (8/7c on Fox), it seems like a good time for reflection inside The House That Kelly Clarkson Built (and Fantasia Shook to the Rafters).
To that end, we got on the phone with executive producer Per Blankens, who left his perch at Swedish Idol and took over the U.S. franchise for Season 13, to dish the changes he’s brought to the show over the last five months.
…..
TVLINE | Do you think next year we might see a little more of the Idol Boot Camp that preceded Rush Week? We only saw glimpses of Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry offering advice and sizing up the hopefuls, but I feel like that would make for really interesting television, showing us more of what happens behind the curtain.
Per Blankens: Yeah, I liked the workshop too. It was a new thing. It gave the kids some preparation for what’s to come. Adam and Chris were super devoted – I’m very impressed with these guys. They showed up, they were there for two days — even though it was just a small segment that got shown — and they did a lot of things off camera that you never got to see.
…..
TVLINE | Probably the biggest complaint I’ve seen from readers this year focuses on Randy Jackson and his role as mentor. We haven’t really seen any specific advice he’s given the contestants. Is that a fair criticism?
Per Blankens: No. I mean Randy is our in-house mentor. He put together the workshop that you really liked, he brought in Adam and Chris. He’s been the mentor, and he’s actually working a lot — not only on camera, but off camera with the kids every week. And then he has brought in the other [guest] mentors. I think Randy’s doing a fantastic job.

* Cover songs
As Queen’s catalog grew, and they released more hit songs, the cover songs vanished. By 1975 (Night at the Opera Tour), the cover songs were relegated to the encore composed of “Big Spender”, “Jailhouse Rock” and the Queen recording of “God Save the Queen”.
When Queen toured with Paul Rodgers, quite a number of non-Queen songs were performed but many of these were by Paul’s former bands, Free and Bad Company.
Queen released a couple cover songs and one co-writes on Queen studio albums.
I am also excluding recordings released by band members but not “branded” as Queen recordings – so sure there are the Larry Lurex tracks.
There are two famous songs in this category on Queen studio albums: “Under Pressure” co-written with David Bowie, and “God Save the Queen” which was composed by an unknown musician with lyrics by Henry Carey, 1790, modern arrangement by Brian May. [Both of these songs will be on the setlist.]
Similarly, “The Wedding March”, from Queen’s 1980 Album: Flash Gordon is an instrumental cover song arranged by Brian May. It is based on the "Bridal Chorus" (German: "Treulich geführt") from the 1850 opera Lohengrin, by German composer Richard Wagner which is traditionally played for the bride's entrance at many formal weddings throughout the Western world. In English-speaking countries it is generally known as "Here Comes the Bride".
The final song in this category is "Too Much Love Will Kill You" which was written by Brian May, Frank Musker, and Elizabeth Lamers.
Of these, the two two cover songs are "God Save the Queen" and "The Wedding March".
"Too Much Love Will Kill You"
The song was recorded by Queen in 1988 or before, and was intended to be on the band's The Miracle album in 1989, but did not make the cut. After Freddie Mercury's death in 1991, May arranged a solo version, which he performed at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992, and subsequently included on his solo album Back to the Light that same year. Released as a single, it reached #5 on the UK Singles Chart. Because it was first played publicly at The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, a common misconception is that it was written as a tribute to Freddie Mercury, although it had actually been written several years before he died.
In 1995, the remaining members of Queen elected to include the original recording of "Too Much Love Will Kill You", with Mercury on vocals, on the Made in Heaven album, released four years after Mercury's death. Queen's version is a power ballad characteristic of the late 1980s time period in which it was recorded, with heavy use of keyboards and electric guitar. It reached #15 on the UK Singles Chart in 1996. Although it failed to duplicate the chart success of May's solo version, Queen's version of the song has since come to be regarded as the definitive version, after being awarded "Best Song Musically and Lyrically" at the 1997 Novello Awards (May said later that if there was one song that he would have wanted to win an award for, it was this one), and being included on Queen's Greatest Hits III.

Q3: If I missed anything in this list, please post in the thread. Thanks!
Queen + Adam Lambert have only performed songs from the Queen catalog
Will they perform a cover song this time?
Yes, Queen played the recording of “God Save the Queen” at the end of their concerts. It is a Queen tradition that goes back to the US leg of the Sheer Heart Attack Tour in 1974. And just write it down on your setlist entry. It will close these concerts, too. But this song is not performed live. The other exception is "Under Pressure" but most people classify that as a Queen song although it is technically a co-write, it is certainly not a cover song.
Now for the rest of the songs…
Eliminate the old rock and roll songs, the special occasion tunes, the holiday songs, and all the Free and Bad Company covers.
There is one cover on this list that Queen + Paul Rodgers performed and Adam performed in his solo concert, “Red House”. If they add one cover song to the setlist for the upcoming concert, my vote is for….
Red House!
Jimi Hendrix Experience: “Red House”, 5/24/1969, San Diego

Queen + Paul Rodgers: "Red House", 4/13/2006, Vancouver

So my wish song has been sent out to the universe! (Waves to Brian, Roger and Adam! You know it is an awesome request!!)
What about your wish song? If you could request 1 cover song NOT released or written by any member of Queen or by Adam, what would you request?
