Damn! Do I have to start liking Caleb again?! I'm glad he likes Adam and Queen, but I don't know how anybody can like this guy who calls his own fans "retards." Is the only controversy that he used an outmoded term? If he had called his own fans "lame asshats" or "willfully obtuse," would it have been OK? Not to mention his boorishness. There is no sparkle here, nothing that would indicate this individual has any future in the highly competitive world of music. The idea of Adam -- let alone the legends of Queen -- singing with this guy makes me feel depressed, not excited. That term is alive and kicking in schools. We work on eliminating it at my school.

Yep. I know that I don't know Adam, but in the many years since Idol, not to mention my *ahhem* online virtual stalking of everything Adam related, I feel that I have a pretty real picture of the kind of person he is, the work ethic he has, and his philosophy. Maybe I'm deluded about that, but we have seen him in so many situations, heard him state his life approach of realness and honesty and heard others praise him as a person so many times that I don't think I am far off the mark. All this to say that I feel so glad that this man who captured me with his voice, who I instantly became a lifelong fan of, is also someone I can respect and be proud to be a fan of. Not just for his insane talent, but also as a person. THIS. I have such a huge admiration for Adam's grit. He's tough, he's gracious, he's appropriately humble but incredibly confident. I really want to support folks like Adam, who has honed his natural talent into an amazingly skilled instrument, and who is a genuinely good guy. There are some singers who have talent, but are lazy and just natural ... jerks ... or suffering from horrible arrogance ... and I'm glad to give them a pass. There have been times when I wasn't much pleased with Adam's demeanor and words toward and about people/things. I think he has had quite a bit of learning, which he did quickly once release from the Idol bubble, but yet still didn't sit right with some folks, including me, at the times. We have a whole body of astuteness from Adam however that glosses over those times he didn't get it right the first time out of the blocks. The first instance for me was the AMAs. I didn't like his explanations/answers, I bought the FYE album and wouldn't play it for weeks. Finally about 2 months later and a gazillion interviews I finally heard the perspective I wanted to hear from him and then he still only said it one time. He's had some tweets that came over the wrong way towards women, called fans sweaty and entitled. He's taken umbrage when other celebrities have made a comment (maybe about gays? can't remember) and then told us to lighten up and not be so PC when he has said something about another group. All in all, Adam is not perfect, and I hope doesn't expect others to be perfect either, especially not youngsters still gagged behind the Idol wall.

Hey Y'all, logging in to make a quick distinction which may be obvious but which I feel like has gotten a little bit muddled: Regarding Caleb's use of the term "retard"--when I was a kid (in the '80s) "mentally retarded" was, I believe, considered the appropriate term to use in cases in which today people would (for fair reasons, it seems to me) prefer the term "mentally disabled." The latter term seems less loaded, more accurate, and more inclusive of a wide variety of conditions, but I totally understand if some people are not "up-to-date" on that switch in preference. Even among well-intentioned people, change takes time. However, that change/progress seems to me to be a completely separate issue from cases, such as this one, where "retard(s)" is used to describe a person or group of people who are not mentally disabled at all, and is used in this context as an insult that is offensive both to the intended target and to people with mental disabilities. Regardless of whether or not this is the most currently acceptable term to use in its appropriate context, this seems obviously offensive to me, just as it would be offensive to use the generally totally acceptable term "gay" as an insult (e.g. "that's sooo gay"). Surely we can expect Caleb to know that much, whether or not he is up to date on the latest correct usage. Any school-yard bully knows that the term "retard" used in this way is meant to be rude and hurtful--and even when I was a kid, and "mentally retarded" was still accepted in clinical settings, "retard" was obviously derogatory language. We knew that when we were seven. Separate topic: IMO Adam may be performing at the AI finale, but I don't think we have any reason so far to think so. Its seems to me to be pretty clear that that AI blog was teasing future appearances in the favorite gif list, if only because there's another Adam-gif from his mentoring appearance that obviously deserves a higher spot in the countdown. I expect this to pop up near #1: 24.media.tumblr.com/06b00cd3b8a0acfaf01ca3fca739799a/tumblr_n180g3KLWG1r1p452o1_400.gif (sorry, can't embed, you'll have to copy and paste because my computer has technical issues with this board that mean I have to disable JavaScript and related html tools to prevent it from freezing) Always happy to see Adam singing on my TV, whatever the reason, but not expecting it this time. I do, however, expect that Shosh's news next week is Adam-related. Dunno why, just a gut feeling!

If Adam must (insert weary sigh here) appear on the final of this lackluster and completely forgettable season of AI then please don't have then drag Queen into the whole misbegotten mess. I don't think Caleb deserves that level of "endorsement" - from what I've seen there are singers in pubs all over Australia (and other countries) who could wipe the floor with the guy... I know Adam on TV is always good value but just not really loving the idea of him being any more associated with this train wreck season than he already is... JMO YMMV
