FREDDIE WOULD LOVE LAMBERT, SAYS TAYLOR 19/05/2014 ~ by Stef Lach
Queen Drummer states there's no aim to replace late frontman – and reveals he still thinks about him every day
Queen's Roger Taylor says Freddie Mercury would approve of the man who is filling in for him on the band's US tour. Drummer Taylor and guitarist Brian May are in America for a series of Queen dates, with Adam Lambert on vocal duties. And while Taylor insists they could never replace Mercury – who died from Aids-related complications in 1991 – he is certain Queen's legendary frontman would love American Idol runner-up Lambert's style. Taylor tells Germany's Bluewin: “When Brian and I give concerts as a Queen, we don’t want anyone to imitate Freddie — because no one can replace him for us. “That would be the wrong message. Adam Lambert is an independent artist. It fits us perfectly, because he is so theatrical, a true diva. Freddie would love him.” And Taylor adds that Mercury is never far from his thoughts. Asked whether he still thinks of him, Taylor says: “Every day, at least once. It is, for Brian and me, part of our lives and our infrastructure. We stood together so closely for so many years .”

Re all the Gene Simmons hate...I think the guys crude and not the brightest light on the tree, but I don't remember him dissing Adam particularly. He did say he thought Adam should NOT come out of the closet because he thought it was not necessarily public business to know and that officially coming out soooo publicly would focus attention on his sexuality instead of his voice and talent...where it should be. Because he is not very polished, it did not come out as well as it should of but seriously, he was right so far as it went. Where he was wrong was that he underestimated just how Adam's bravery would galvanize his fandom and how it would endear him to the international marketplace. Again...I don't think Gene was being insulting or hateful...just conservative and a little dim.... fwiw

craazyforadam said: I do believe there will be a part where they are doing what they promised: Step into new terrain. People will be talking about it.
And I'm sure there will be some criticism. But a real Freddie fan understands that if Freddie were here today, he would be trying all sorts of new things, just like he did when the band was not limiting itself to rock.

Do not be fooled by the painted face.

OT but here is an animation of David Bowie explaining his rock star 'Ziggy Stardust' persona. ETA: Bringing it back to Adam...Bowie was one of his artistic inspirations.....and we have Adam's 'Glee' Elliott "STARCHILD' Gillbert character! Rolling Stone @rollingstone 31m #ICYMI David Bowie explains his rock star persona, Ziggy Stardust, in a 1988 interview that has been animated rol.st/1ncMCqD
Thanks for bringing this over, this is really worthwhile a listen. Talks about his characters, how he left any specific character behind. How he wrote music for that character, because he found it so hard to write music for himself. And he talks about having to ignore the noise of popular opinion and write what he believed in. This is great to listen to, and I actually, hope that Adam gets to see this video. I want Adam to be free of radio pressures also. I want him to just have the freedom to be the artist he was meant to be. Looks like he will have the financial freedom for a while, and there is no label telling him what to do, so now, I hope he can also FEEL free in what he is creating. Hope, that all these NZ jitters end up with on a happy note and you guys in NZ get a concert too! And that you find out soon, i.e. prior to the pre-sale for AU.

Since RCA is releasing an Adam album, could they release 'Runnin' as a single with a lyric video if they wanted to...just curious...anyone know? RCA is not releasing this -- Sony Legacy is releasing it. They release value albums of catalog material to help Sony make money on the masters they own. It will be a cheap package, it is designed to sell to retailers for a low price. No chance of a single, or video, or anything that requires an investment. This will be like the thing in the Value section in retail stores. ** The nice part of this one is that it will have 3 American Idol tracks on it that many fans do not have.

Purplegirl @purpiegirll 2m RTSmart_Cookie86: No one should ever try to sing a Queen song, unless it's Adam Lambert...that pretty little man has some intense vocals.
