Gene Simmons actually defending Adam?! wtf! mmadamimadamm @mmadamimadamm 50s Color me shocked! He's actually sticking up for Adam? twitter.com/genesimmons/status/468871289701416961 …
Dewey Cheatem @dcheatem 2h @genesimmons No one can replace Freddie Mercury just like no one can replace you or Paul or Ace or Peter.
Gene SimmonsVerified account @genesimmons @dcheatem --THAT IS NOT THE POINT AND YOU KNOW IT. YOU SAID THE KID HAD NO TALENT. I asked you, then why did Queen get him as lead singer.
This is the what this guy said to get that respond from Gene:
Dewey Cheatem @dcheatem · 4h @kissonline @americanidol @adamlambert Sad day in music history when a No-talents like Lambert get recognition. Shame on @genesimmons
I feel sorry for this guy. Looks like he's a BIG fans of KISS and trying to get Gene's attention and kiss his *** but Gene's not going to let him undermine Brian and Roger's. Good for him!! Why else Queen ask Adam to be their lead singer if not because of his HUGE talent?

Re all the Gene Simmons hate...I think the guys crude and not the brightest light on the tree, but I don't remember him dissing Adam particularly. He did say he thought Adam should NOT come out of the closet because he thought it was not necessarily public business to know and that officially coming out soooo publicly would focus attention on his sexuality instead of his voice and talent...where it should be. Because he is not very polished, it did not come out as well as it should of but seriously, he was right so far as it went. Where he was wrong was that he underestimated just how Adam's bravery would galvanize his fandom and how it would endear him to the international marketplace. Again...I don't think Gene was being insulting or hateful...just conservative and a little dim.... fwiw I don't feel much of anything towards Gene, certainly not hatred. I'd have to value his opinion to be upset by it. I think he is fully cognizant of what he said and is egotistical. This is based on more than just his comments about Adam. This is based on his 'show' and other interviews. I just don't think highly of him as a person, but he is a smart businessman. Where he rubbed me wrong was that he kept opening his mouth and riding the news cycle at the expense of Adam. Each time he was asked about this comments, continued with his vein of thought. Could of said.. "thats my opinion and I don't have much more to add", but he didn't.

Purplegirl @purpiegirll 2m RTSmart_Cookie86: No one should ever try to sing a Queen song, unless it's Adam Lambert...that pretty little man has some intense vocals.
.. I won't say a 6'1" tall man as little.

ETA: Wrote this earlier - before the twitter exchange was posted, but just shows that Gene speaks his mind and has no problem pushing back at a fan, who is a bit overeager (and needs to grow a pair of ears), but anyways, my opinion about Gene:
Gene Simons says a lot of things and does not think twice about them contradicting each other. He is certainly no fool, but he is very driven and success-oriented, and he does have a mega size ego. Everything else, including any deeper thoughts about certain people like Adam will come behind that evaluation based on success, power, his own ego, etc. Who knows how he reconciles all the stuff he says in his head, I doubt he ever does, otherwise his head would explode. Most of what he said about Adam was harsh, but not totally off base and it was spoken through the Gene Simmons filter of what the world looks like. He actually said quite a few things about Adam.
In 2009 (paraphrasing- I don't have the exact quotes): Adam should have stayed closeted, and should stop talking about his private life, the housewives in Wisconsin aren't ready, music biz wants their artist closeted.
==> Well Adam's path was and is much harder, and many 'housewives in Wisconsin are not ready' and music biz runs after the closeted artists, but is very hesitant about an open one. Look at radio, record company, etc... Gene was not wrong there....the truth is, Adams path is much more difficult, but his role was to be the pioneer, who kicked the ball forward...and who wins in the long run anyhow. And nobody saw it coming that a solid fan community would form around that first artist that had the guts as well as the talent, as well as the persona to go there.
Now, how this comment from 2009 reconciles with the recent one, that Adam benefits from being out (Paul Stanley, I believe, said that), I cannot answer. This makes no sense, and the only take away for me is, they are internally observing his career and very much debating what they think of him. Adam tends to cause debates, what else is new?
The other comment that caused a lot of stir, is when he said that Adam was not a rock singer. That was not a fair comment, imo towards somebody who had just out-sung him by a mile on stage (if Kiss were even singing live, who knows). But if he meant mostly the type of voice (less grit, more traditional singing, rather than a rougher rock voice), then that has been said by many, and ultimately will always be a matter of taste. Those that want tons of growl in a rock voice, will go somewhere else. Gene may not be the most qualified to speak to such a topic, but then he has never given that question a thought in his life, so why start now.
Ultimately, I believe that Gene has respect for success. And if Adam can be on a Queen ticket and help sell out a major tour, then Adam made it, in Gene's book. He is not the first rocker (and probably not the last) that we now all of a sudden see coming out of the woodwork, on behalf of Adam, people who previously were too chicken to stand up for him.
Kiss is totally fake, and the release button to make the guitar break in half, is part of the act. Talking about an act: In showmanship, Kiss always liked Queen, they did get the entertainer side of Freddie, and so I would assume, that they can relate to that in Adam too, if Adam occasionally dials it up during the Queen concerts. And then there is the 'gay club kid closet', that Kiss turned into their uniform. So, there are elements of a connection, that will matter in Gene's evaluation.
Adam delivers and ultimately commands respect from folks. I don't think that Gene ever had a problem with Adam, I just think, he did not believe in his future success, like we did. And now he sees that he has it, and so he speaks up for him on twitter. Pigs are flying (and Adam has made pigs fly in many places already over the years).
There was one other topic, where Gene spoke about Adam, but I cannot remember it for the life of me now. Somebody will have to help me refresh my memory, please. I am sure, somebody can help me out.

Since RCA is releasing an Adam album, could they release 'Runnin' as a single with a lyric video if they wanted to...just curious...anyone know? RCA is not releasing this -- Sony Legacy is releasing it. They release value albums of catalog material to help Sony make money on the masters they own. It will be a cheap package, it is designed to sell to retailers for a low price. No chance of a single, or video, or anything that requires an investment. This will be like the thing in the Value section in retail stores. ** The nice part of this one is that it will have 3 American Idol tracks on it that many fans do not have. I am thrilled to get this album because of these American Idol tracks!
